1st: Please dont move this to BDD, id really love some real discussion instead of people screaming IM'ING PILLS WILL GIVE U ABCES!!!

Alright, so, ive got these 30mg codeine phosphate pills, and id like to discuss 2 things:

I already IM'd 90mg. Took 5 shots to the leg. Though I question my purification techniques (which i'll describe below in a seperate post as to not make this one TOO much of a wall of text), and would like to know how i could "clandestinely" improve them, and, the second thing: is it even worth it as opposed to just eating them?

What are the differences in what the body does to the drug, and what the drug does to the body, between the oral routes and the intramuscular?

As far as i know, codeine taken orally is *insert pharmacology and pharmacokinetics section of wikipedia* by the body. But are the exact same drugs created/utilized when codeine is administered by the IM route? And if not, would this benefit me from a hedonistically pleasure-seeking point of view? (other than wrt absorption efficiency, since ~90%(correct?) oral absorption isnt too far off from the non100% amount of drug that actually ends up in the needle, after losses from the whole clandestine, non-medical-setting injection preparation techniques anyway).

How I Prepared The Codeine For Injection

-poored finely crushed pills into one of those big needle-less syringes for administering lidocain to babies or whatever
-shook powder around in there with a few cc's of water, and pushed solution through a previously inserted couple-of-layers of paper towel filter-thingy, and into a spoon
-shaved the entirety of my legs and stood in front of a mirror wearing panties for no reason
-drew into needle through tiny peice of cotton and stabbed leg repeatedly with old ass syringe.

Codeine can be used intramuscularly safely, but it's just needless use of a needle because codeine is more effective if it is metabolised in the liver. (and it's well absorbed orally anyway).

Ideally you should be micron filtering your pills for injection and injecting into a large muscle mass like a thigh, gluetus, shoulder, etc. But as you said there are really no reasons to use codeine this way when most of its activity comes from oral metabolites and it's extensively absorbed.

Intravenous usage of codeine is not advised (read: considered a bad idea) because codeine can cause a humongous histamine release or cause pulmonary fuckups of all sorts (read: massive allergic reactions).

I think the only benefit you'll get from IM codeine is a slightly faster onset. It's not advised to do it with non-sterile equipment, cotton balls/paper towel filters , etc... at least not regularly. Just eat your pills.

Codeine is still codeine, and it still follows the same metabolic fate (being glucuronidated, N/O-demethylated etc) whether it's absorbed orally, rectally, IM, etc. Oral just makes sure the metabolism happens while the codeine enters the blood.

If one has a large opioid tolerance (though I am aware codeine is considered to have a ceiling dose), an effective amount of codeine has the propensity to be a cause of anaphylaxis. IV'ing it is known to show the subjective sign of such risk experienced as an extreme "pins & needles" sensation along the extremities.

Thank you. I guess in retrospect, the only real use of injecting the stuff is if you have a full stomach, or are already on another opiate that, while not suppressing the needed enzymes, inevitably would make taking anything orally pretty pointless- unless very very tolerant of opiates and their effects on the gastric system, at which point though, taking a weak drug with a ceiling effect, would almost seem a bit pointless too

lately though ive read conflicting things about the supposed "ceiling effect" of codeine, most of it being anecdotal, so im wondering, are any of you aware of perhaps recent studies/discoveries that it isnt what it was originally claimed to be? [Edit] Nagelfar (nice name, btw my face feels almost swollen with a 220mg (oral) dose that has only managed to keep me out of withdrawls. Do you think this (potentially?) dangerous reaction (if taken in higher doses) could be prevented with a large pre-dose of some antihistamine like diphenhydramine?

and hey sekio, assuming i get my hands on some micron filters, what would be an effective way of filtering the initial bulk of the pill gunk at home, while keeping everything sterile? after all i really do prefer getting high AFTER eating, and fortunately the little willpower i have has kept me from developping a tolerance that would make codeine useless to me

Im thinking heat might hurt my drug, and so, without more knowledge on the subject, would adding some salt to the final solution reduce the risk of abcess/infection?
