Ok kids there has been something really serious happining to the chicago rave scene in the past few weekends im going to have to warn you that this post is very long but worth reading.
This is some info i have gethered fom various chicago message boards.
the first thing....
Here is what is going on. CPD has a mission, a new-year's eve resolution, if you will; To use whatever tactics are necessary to scare away party kids and promoters alike out of Chicago. Will this work, for a bit. Will this have a long term affect on our scene, no. Why? Yes, I too have been asking a lot of questions lately about this, and here is what I have found out.
First, this is a cycle of give and take. According to promoters that I have been talking to, this happens every year. Is this the worst year yet, possibly (it is still only the second week in the new year people, it's not like we are in week 35 of a battle with CPD). But, depending on how certain events transpire in the very near future, this may be over in the next month or so. I say this is a cycle of give and take people because of this: parties aren't legal. And there is NO permit for a "rave". Regardless of what you all have been told and have heard in the past, no party is technically legal. The only permit for a party are a bunch of Ben Franklin's, period. Granted, a "legal" venue helps, but there only about 500 laws that are broken by a promoter, party kids, and others alike to hold an event, namely drug possessions, curfews, noise complaints, etc. etc.
Second off, as Kick It showed us, this only affects parties thrown in CHICAGO CITY LIMITS. Dolton is *just* far enough away from all the Chicago cronies, for now... (I'm just waiting to see if Chicago tries to annex Dolton, just to screw with us. If so, you heard it hear first folks! )
Thirdly, it is caused by all these websites out there now promoting raves? Most likely no. And even to a finer point, these places like Raveworld.net and Raverworld.com expound upon only the better parts of the rave culture for the general public to see, people dancing to the rhythmic beats of the night. Another reason why I say no is because these types of crack downs have occurred long before the web was popular, and because if the cops wanted to know were a party is at, it really isn't all that hard. They can walk into a record store just as easily as you and I, and they too can tail party goers from the map point to the venue quite easily.
So, where does this leave you and I? Expect more parties at Dolton, and some fresh venues out in the Suburbs, but expect the Dolton for the time being, because the Suburbs are generally tougher to get support for an event than the city. (Ie: take that how you will)
Consequently, expect expensive parties. Dolton doesn't come by cheaply.
Also, to answer the question: How are these CPD Cronies busting down parties? Simple enough. Remember how I said that there are about 500 laws broken by promoters, party kids and everyone else? Well, one of those laws broken is a company charter, or lack thereof, weather it be for-profit, not-for-profit or non-profit. (Yes, there is a difference between the latter two, but I won't delve into that now) Most of your promotion companies are just a bunch of people with good intention, to throw a bomb-ass, cheap, low-over head party. Consequently, certain corners are missed in the name of lower ticket price, and this includes getting your business registered with the State of Illinois, and your Charter. Also, because Chicago has extra special requirements, a business located in or does work in Chicago also needs to file paperwork with the City of Chicago. Most promoters don't bother. (It takes about 3-4 months with Chicago to file non-for-profit charter paperwork.)
Is what Chicago CPD doing legal? Doubt it. They stand on shaky ground right now, but
honestly, so does our scene. The word Rave is starting to be our scene's Achilles heel. Am I a raver? By all definitions of our term, a solid YES! But, that also doesn't help whatsoever, if our raves keep getting shut down. Boogie tribe is doing this, Smooth Movement and Flashback have done this: What we go to is not a rave, per se. It is an event, a techno-music feastable, an electronica music jamboree. (Yea, I was kinda stretching that one thin.... ) Anyway, the word Rave needs to be selectively used. Remember folks, you always preach this "underground" attitude towards raves. Why not learn some "underground" practices, and not be so blatant about parties?
Sad isnt it?...
and another...
A handful of major political figures influenced my New York City's Mayor Guiliani have litereally invited the DEA and ATF to come and "regulate" the chicago rave scene.
This is not going to stop anytime soon my friends! A lot of other very traumatic things have been getting publicity lately too!
There was a girl on ecstasy raped at route66 a month ago, another 14year old raver was shot in the face by another over a bad drug deal in November.
Authorities have been buzzing about someone named "spider" for a long time...
There have been several break in at animal clinics and the authorities believe the suspects WILL be found at raves... Edmund V is under surviellence... I don't think you guys realize that this board is not memebers only!
Authorites sit on here silently all the time! Nothing you say on this board is protected at all... and unless you submit from remote locations outside of your home or your friends homes.. you are subjecting yourself to a major risk.. so much is about to go down... I must admit I feel sorry for a lot of you. You are in way deeper than you think. Be careful.
This information is not that hard to come by.. I work in city hall...
Those of you on high volume
This is a really bad thing for the time being
i would strongly suggest staying out of chicago raves untill this calms down. i wouldnt want to see any of you guys having to pay money to get thrown out 10 minutes later.

Ahhhh...SHIT!!!! I know all about the crack down on all of us party people. I was subjected to the vileness first hand. I was at Karma last week (Thursday) and saw first hand what this is all about. It was really scary, and I was totally sketched out for like an hour and a half after the guy I was talking to got busted right b4 my eyes. I, however, did not have any drugs or any paraphenalia of any sort on me. I dont do drugs or use any paraphenalia of any kind....LMFAO. Can those police guys really shut down all raves every weekend? Personally, I dont think so, at least I HOPE they cant. I sincerely HOPE that our scene here in chicago, or ne where else, is not in jeoprody. They cant do it 4 ever. People would not let that happen, I hope. They just dont understand. They can fill the jails w/ all of us and there would still be more than enuf people for promoters to throw a party. They can bust all the people they want, it will still continue in the future, in some way/shape/form, no matter what. Its a mammals nature to seek pleasure, whether it be SEX (definitely most popular method...lol...
wink.gif
), substance/drugs (definitely second most pop), or playing/dancing (I love this one as much as the other two...
biggrin.gif

). It is an infinite battle for both sides....which achieves minute accomplishments at best, for their side....where does that leave everyone.....in STRESSVILLE!! It really sucks, but its the real. The only way is to legalize all drugs, and even then, theres a bounty of reasons why that wouldnt work. I really believe there is NO solution. We will have to put up with the shit 4 the rest of our drug ingesting lives (of course that doesnt mean the rest of your life....
smile.gif
). I dunno, whatever happens, happens. We cant predict that we will get busted, only try our best to avoid it. Be descreet (sp?), like a tampon...lol. Try your best to be descreet, especially when dealing with illegal stuff.....DUH!!!LOL
wink.gif
If the cops are reading this......please......FUCK OFF ASSWIPE!!! LOL Hey, that felt really good. I told a cop to fuck off.....thats what free speech is all about baby!!! Neways, they should be knocking at my door any second now....gotta get down into the crawlspace......man it really is starting to smell from all of the dead people down there. hehe

just kidding!!! No, really guys, I was only kidding....hey, seriously, where are you guys goin?

I wrote this on the newbies board eailer today, and later came across this thread.
Here ya guys go...
Hello to all the party people around the world.
It has been brought to my attention that our scene is in grave danger. With all the shady drug pushers, greedy production companies, and worldwide commercialization that has gone on in the past few years, the scene has been run-down complelty.
This weekend I went to Paul Johnson's B-Day party in Chicago (Kick-It 2). I have not been to a "party" in about 6 months due to the fact that all there is at any party these days are cracked out kids getting "fucked up" beyond belief. When I got to the party (a 5 1/2 hour drive from where I live) the bullshit had already started. Around Midnight, some jackass had opened a backdoor and let in over 500 kids, which meant that everyone else who had been standing in line, and even some of the pre-sale ticket holders were unable to get in, or had to wait over 2 hours while the situation was settled. Thankfully I was on the guestlist, and didnt have to suffer like hundreds of GOOD people did, but thats not the point.
Heres the point that I cannot stress enough: Our scene is comprised of the most talented DJ's/music producers/MC's accross the world, and a party should be a place where people come to see and participate in the DJ's astonishing sets, live performances, and array of excellent dancers. In other words, ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC, PERIOD.
But so many of you take this for granted, and don't realize that the drug dealers/pushers and greedy production companies are in it for the money, not the music, not the talent, NOTHING BUT THE MONEY.
Once I made it inside the party, I saw nothing more than a huge Expo Center full of CrackedOut Party Kids and Kandiekids all more worried about their drug of choice more so than who was spinning, and why. PEOPLE, OUR SCENE IS NOT ABOUT THE DRUGS.
I know that the people from Chicago can deffiantly relate to me right now, because as of last week, the Mayor had banned all parties within the city limits, and has also prepared a rave task force to shut down any party that goes on.
Maybe this is what it takes to open peoples eyes, to see what the hell is going on around you. Or maybe its the fact that your so fucked up of your drug of choice that you can't see whats going on, or maybe you don't even care... well if that is the case, you do not belong in the scene. The good people of the scene deffiantly know what I am talking about, and maybe some of you can help. Help spread the word, ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC, and keep the scene straight, because without help from all the good people in the scene, it will die, and we will have nothing.
If you are a party kid or Kandiekid, and are always asking "Why don't they want us here?", or say "Just because I am a KandieKid, it doesnt make me any different than you old skool ravers" you need to relize one thing. Us "Old Skool" ravers pioneered the rave scene, we started it all because we love the music so much, because we love the people so much, because we love the entire rave community/culture so much we wanted to share it with everyone and give them a chance to enjoy life like we do, but this only comes with RESPONSIBILITY.
If things do not change SOON, this is what is going to happen.
1. All major cities will form rave task forces and ban all raves from happening inside the city limits. If this doesnt fix the problem, you will see rave task forces poping up all over the place, even in small communities, Im telling you guys, our govenment is SERIOUS about making this happen, and you are letting it happen.
2. Production Companies will be forced to exclude party kids to their events. In others words, an age limit (which will most likely be 21), and dress code will be put into effect. This has already happend in some states, and to be honest has proven to be effetive on weeding out all the hardcore drug addicts, and shady drug dealers, so once again, PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE WITH YOUR ACTIONS. If you are going to get "fucked up" do it in a mannor that doesnt threaten the scene, leave the drugs behind, or do what you have to do before you get to the party, but again, and I cannot say this enough, BE RESPONSIBLE! ALSO, too all you moron's who don't know any better, GHB kills.
3. The scene will die completly. This is highly unlikly, but you never know what could happen. For all we know the govenment could pass legislation making throwing parties illegal. How many production companies will continue to throw parties if this happens? Only the ones who keep it straight underground, which means only a fraction of the kids you see partying now will even know about it.
If you are a drug dealer/pusher and are into the scene, keep it out of the parties. Unless you want a lenghty visit to the county corroctional institute I highly advise you to do just that, because I am not the only one who feels this way about our scene, and measures to ensure that our scene does not fall victem to our wonderfull government are already in place, so its only a matter of time before you are all weeded out anyway. Take that as a warning, and if it happens to you, don't say I didnt warn you.
If you own a production company, and your main priority is making money off of drug addicted kids by flooding their enviroment with drugs, lies and bullshit, may you burn in hell slowly. These kids are our future, and you are destroying not only thier future but the rest of the world's future as well. Not only that, your taking innocent minds are filling them with false fantasy's and fake dreams, not giving them a chance to become who they really are in life. Call it whatever you want, but in my eyes, its murder and its wrong.
That is all I really have to say. Hopefully I have touched some of you in a way that noone else could, and open your eyes to what is going on in our scene. Please, again be responsible, and have some commen sense.
If you have any comments, or would like to add to this, please email me or reply back to this post. I want to hear other people's opinions & thoughts so hopefully we can all unite and bring our scene back to the way it used to be.
Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, AND RESPONSIBILITY- PLURR 2000

genius postings guys (bubbleberry!!!)
smile.gif

so heres where all the brain power of bluelight is lurking
just to add --
this is exactly what is going on in FL right now...there are no kind of "rave" events happening in the south florida area...all dj's who do come spin at 21+ over/dress code clubs esp. on south beach..while this is good in some respect (no complete drug addicts or shady dealers), there is no vibe anymore..just a bunch of supermodels doing aerobix to their prescribed eurotrance...so expect the worse in regards to the future of parties..because its happening/happened in other parts of the world.

Oh and by the way, this is in response to Alderons post, What do you consider old school? as far as im concerned im old school, my first rave was when i was 13 years old, i am now 19 that is 6 years in the rave scene. I agree with you about the people getting fucked up totally out of there minds, but drugs are a big part of the rave culture, and they where ever seince i have been going anyway. I like to take e at some of the parties i go to, but not every one and doing so dosent make me a drug addict, or it dosent make me fucked up out of my mind, and i deffinatly dont worry about my drug of choice over everything else, namely the talent. I use e responsibly and for the added experience, I have never went to a party just to do drugs, hell, the first 4 years i was going i was always compleatly sober, exept for the occasional smoke a joint here and there. And besides, the newbies and the candykids are both a important part of our scene also, what i mean is, we where newbies or possibly candykids at one point also and we have knowledege, but eventually they will also, hey they will probably be the future of the scene. I deffinatly dont agree with the people who go just to use the drugs and nothing else, espessaly if they dont even like the music. But it is deffinalty ok for people who go for the talent to use drugs when they want (responsibly of corse on not to the extereme) Im not sure if this makes any sense to you but its deffinalty what i think.

Standing in line at Dolton this past weekend I over heard some people say that mayor Daily has restricted any permits for parties within chicago limits. This means that there will be no more parties at route 66 or Black hole anymore. This is not a fact but just something that I had heard in line. It does make sense though since I also heard that Route 66 had been busted the week before, before the party had even started. For those in fear of every party being busted and being forced to party strictly at Dolton I wouldn't worry too much, Spin Cycle was thrown in a hotel ball room if they can fool them we can always find a place to go as long as we play it smart.

Yeah, and i have heard that one of the reasons for this happening is the mayor or the aldermans son or daughter ODed on G at a rave. as well i have just herd this i dont kmow if its a fact.

GHB Kills, straight up. Just another perfect example of how people can take a good thing and can destroy it because what they have is not good enough for them.

Found this on the Chicago Police Web site...
http://w4.ci.chi.il.us./communitypolicing/AboutCPD/PressReleases/PressReleases99/PR991215.html
Police Target "Rave" Parties and the Drug Gamma-Hydroxbutyric Acid (GHB)
15 December 1999
The Chicago Police Department is issuing an alert to community residents to be aware of the dangers of Gamma-Hydroxbutyric Acid (GHB), a new, powerful, yet popular drug found at young adult parties known as "Rave" parties. This drug can cause serious injury and even death when ingested. GHB should not be confused with the drug "ecstasy" or other date rape drugs.
GHB usually appears as a colorless, odorless, and slightly salty liquid, or less commonly found in a white powder form. GHB is primarily used for sexual assault purposes, and is commonly mixed into a person's drink. When ingested, the human body rapidly absorbs and metabolizes GHB, and within 5 to 15 minutes physical symptoms such as, euphoria, calmness, hallucinations, and sometimes death occurs. Law enforcement officials want residents to never leave their drinks unattended at social gatherings or bars, and refuse drinks offered to them by strangers. Moreover, police and community leaders have adopted a "designated driver program". This program involves designating a sober friend the task of driving to ensure the safety of all.
"Our narcotics officers have called GHB a 'stealth' drug due to the difficulty in detecting its use," said Philip Cline, Commander of the police department's narcotics unit. "Working together, police officers, and community residents can reduce these early deaths and heinous assaults resulting from the illicit use of such drugs as GHB," he said.
Continuing education on GHB will help both investigators and the public in recognizing and combating its use and proliferation. Parents should realize that GHB is also distributed under the following names: Cherry Menth, Easy Lay, Gamma 10, GBH, Georgia Home Boy, GHB, G-Juice, Great Hormones, Grievous Bodily Harm, G-Riffick, Liquid E, Liquid X, Salty Water, Scoop, Soap, Somatomax, and Vita-G.

Well, well, well. Our law enforcement is just as idiotic as the rest of law enforcement. Wow, what a revalation!!!
wink.gif
A "slightly" salty liquid...rotflmfao. They also go on to 'group' exstacy with "other" date rape drugs.....HA!....what a crock!!! And, oh yeah, I always use G for sexual assault purposes! LOL Yeah, really "stealth", you see some G'ed out MF'er that cant even stand on his/her own two feet, yeah, REALLY stealth. LMFAO!!!
I have to agree with a lot of Alderons post. Definitely, shady ass fukn drug dealers can fuk off!! Production companies CAN be shady, but, definitely NOT ALL. I see where you r comin from with all of the people going out for the drugs, thats definitely BS. It IS all about the MUSIC. I dont care what neone else has to say. Drugs r a part of it, no doubt about it. I think they always will be, but, they definitely dont have to be.
To rebut what you said about rave parties being made illegal, thats impossible! What happened to the "PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" deal in the constitution?! There is no possible way they would get THAT law passed. I for one AND all would take a stand against this. I am serious as a heart attack, thats how passionate I am about our scene. They cant take the scene away from us, NO FUKN WAY!!!!!! Take the drugs away, thats fine w/ me. I dont care if the drugs are there or not. I love the people and the music and the people who make/present us w/ the music.
Is it the scenes fault if some aldermans dumb-ass daughter OD'ed on G....I dont think so. She made that choice to take G in the first place, the scene didnt make her do it....D-F'in-UH!!!! What a crock of emotionally fed BULLSHIT!!!!! If this alderman cared sooooooooooooooo much for his daughter why wasnt he aware of where she was going, or what she was doing? If she lied to him, then they didnt have a good relationship anyway. She was obviously trying to escape something. Whatever, I dont really know, I am just a speculator.
Our scene WILL NEVER DIE, JUST MULTIPLY, COLORS, COLORS, COLORS!!!!! It is just too worldwide, I love it sooooo much if it died here, I would be forced to move somewhere else where I could do it. Not every countries government is as "bass-ackward" as ours is. Our government is full of plexiglass facade having numb-nuts. I HATE our government and how it claims to "work". I dont want to go off into our government...way too much to say about those FUCKERS!!!
steve

A lot of people argue that the scene isnt all about the music, and there wouldnt be a scene if it wasnt for the drugs... thats total bullshit because if you had a party and took away the music, what would you have? Nothing but a bunch of peeps running around gettin polluted. If you have a party with music, and no drugs, you still have a party, and thats about as true as it gets.
Granted, the drugs enhance the music, this I do not disagree with. Music and drugs have gone hand in hand ever since the beginning of time. There is nothing better than eatin a roll, and dancin your ass off untill the early morn. Its a high that you cannot get from anything else in this world. The problem is, people take that for granted and abuse the fact.
