Heroin in deep south, came across dark brown gear, question

There isn't a lot of heroin around where I live, the closest cities would be Memphis and New Orleans....anyway,
ran across some dark brown powder, its definitely not tar. Awhile back there was a batch of gear that resembled light brown sugar and had a sweet smell, but word is this dark brown is better. Anyway Im on 80mgs of methadone so I dont use, but because of inclement weather I haven't been able to get to my clinic and Im sick. Havent used h in many years so I'm out of the loop...this stuff is DARK brown with some small rocks in it and has a distinct smell- I would liken it to vitamin-like but its pungent and almost smells like cat-piss. Havent tasted it yet but I got it pretty cheap. Any recommendations on how to be sure its heroin before trying? Ive been burned before so I'm a bit hesitant, but Im sick so I need to do something.........thanks.

Was your plan to snort it or IV it? If your plan was to snort it then I'm not sure I see any problem with just starting very small to see if its good. Word is its good, so besides the color I'm not sure of the doubt? You said you haven't used in years so obviously be very careful, do pinhead bumps to start, but you'll know if it's H when it starts to hit...
If you were gonna IV I'd still maybe snort a bit first to check, or taste it? I know there are test kits that will turn for H but since you can't really leave the house...

It's tar in a different consistency than what you're used to; it's very common on the west coast. Sometimes if you hear it up, while gently blowing on it, it will get sticker.. That pungent order you're referring to is classic tar smell...like vinegar.

As soon as you melt it down, you will see it resemble the tar you're used to.

Start small, man, even with a tolerance. Tar is so unpredictable. I've had tar where a match head almost kills me, and tar where 3 just got me cozy and warm...they both looked identical

If you're snorting it, don't try to snort it dry. Again, it's tar heroin. You need to mix it with water, cook it lightly, let cool, then snort

Dont bang if you arent sure what it is.. if it brown powder then it may be raw.. but really no way to tell without using it.. I would foil it and not inhale the smoke and see what it smells like and then the choice is yours.

We can't really tell how good your heroin is or isn't... just be careful and start low with new material.
