As title states, I'm interested in learning more specifically about psychoactive drug's pharmacology etc I think. But its just such a broad and complex field I feel I need an idiots guide to get started. I would prefer a book rather to various pages on the net (although a downloadbale ebook might be okay)

So... Any recommendations?

Thanks.

edit - just thought I would add , do you think there is a better area to post this question in?

You could try Advanced Drug Discussion if you don't get any good answers here..

There's a book at the pharmacy that they sell called "the pill book"... they have it at alot of pharmacies. It's rather interesting and gives you alot of information about pills, their uses side effects. It's a nice reference to have around. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for but it's cool because its all in one book. Hope this helps.

Rang & Dale's Pharmacology
it's expensive. go to one of those second hand university bookstores and you will find the last edition much cheaper

should add that reading it is like doing a whole college course, but it really is a good book and not too in-depth (or hard to read) despite being 800 pages or so. It's a big subject, but this is an introductory book for people who are just starting to learn it. You should also get a secondary-school chemistry book.

I'm actually in high school... And I dont even want to take chemistry. Fuck. FUck FUck fuck fuck fuck fuck. everything is so much work i dont like work. Im laZy. Fuck me. Fuck.

well i might steal a car. But I would need someone to show me how.

Then I would feel absoloutley awful after and try and return it lol

yah maybe ill just read little bits of interest to me. Its almost like one of things i WISH i wanted to learn about more. Like I wish I could be more knowledgeable without wanting to actually learn so much, know what I mean? Oh well just not how it works is it.

Thanks for the reccomendation though I will be checking out out.

This is a quick read from out very own BL's. It includes some of the fundamentals in pharmacology.

I'll start you off with the first thing you should learn about pharmacology. Pharmacology is broken down into two main categories: Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics.

Pharmacokinetics is how the body interacts with the drug. Going into more depth, it deals with absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME).

Pharmacodynamics is how the drug interacts with the body. So when the drug binds to the receptor, what will the effects be on the body?
Good luck on your pursuit for knowledge.
