Religion (God) is an invention of mankind to help us cope with our own mortality and truth that we will all inevitably die.

You are wrong. There are more significant intentions/implications of religion, which contribute much more to (coping with) reality.

What about religions that don't follow God / gods? What about spiritualities? What about drugs? All of these things are in existence to help us cope with the need to find purpose in life so we don't think we squandered it away meaninglessly.

We want bigger, higher, more spiritually and physically appetizing experiences to fill our lives. It applies to much more than religion, my dear.

If I follow God, I try to set myself up with less risk and more enjoyment of smaller things. I want to feel like I'm reaching Him so I can let Him live my life the best way He believes it should be lived.

The rest is just the experiences that come withthe beliefs. You sound like it's such a bad thing!

SL, the post was clearly talking about our mortality and death.

What about religions that don't follow God / gods? What about spiritualities?
Now, most religions believe in some sort of inherent meaning to your existence, whether it be a soul, spirit, energy, or entity that will continue after you die.
Physics will talk about the conservation of energy, and talk about how you, as a collection of atoms, will continue.
'you' as the amalgamation of your consciousness. Not only the end of all decisions, but of all experience.
The annihilation of you, your entire being, is what religion seems to comfort with proposed continuation.
Spirituality is a decent contributor to religion. Irrespective of god, it is a massive contributor, but I'm not going to separate the two.
It's all a means of adding unknown notions to human mortality, to insinuate the cessation of your life consequently entails more.

What about drugs?
Although some drugs can bring us close to death (OD/combinations) and some drugs can make us experience death on a much greater level than the sober thought of it (psychedelics), do drugs have any more value as far as coping with ones own death than say, the death of a loved one?
I don't see at all how drugs fit in at all..
They're not made to help us cope with these things, nor do they inherently do that let alone used for that.

We don't have to attach all these abstract notions to things to become comfortable with the idea that there is nothing more after death, just like before you were born.

Here's a nice quote, for those in the mood:
Let life be as beautiful as summer flowers
And death as beautiful as autumn leaves

Well I have to be honest I expected as much from a title claiming a breakdown of religion. 23 word breakdown. Interesting, something tells me you haven't spent enough time on your theory...

See the P&S Forum Guidelines, with especial attention to the Addenda, entries one and two.

- Try to think in terms of how others will perceive your post. Make it clear whether you're looking to debate or not, or you might not get the kinds of responses you were expecting. This may sound obvious, but many threads fail simply because this gets looked over.

- Narrow your scope. Try to avoid "universals" like the dreaded "Does God Exist?". Not only are these discussions bound to appear in one form or another in more well-defined threads where they actually have a purpose, but also can be found in already-existing threads by searching for them. In other words, if it's a big question, it probably already has a big thread, so UTFSE.
