Hello all, I apologize if this has already been asked. I have been recently using this site and learning from members. That being said, I’d like to further understand what is going on with receptors and cells when i decide to explore and realize that its important. Yet its difficult to read those long studies and research articles, yet i want to do what i can as just seeing what happens is not safe. Thank you, plus then i will be able to not only help myself but also others!
If you struggle concentrating, it's worth getting treated. Also, a bit of caffeine at the beginning of complex tasks can aid in concentration (provided it doesn't cause you anxiety).
A lot of the problems focusing we're experiencing as a society are being found to be caused by the way we use smartphones; more specifically the way algorithmic attention interruption causes the brain to habituate to frequent switching from task to task, topic to topic. This constant breaking of focus results in reduced attention span. For instance, the use of text prediction has been proven to reduce our ability to spell words correctly.
I disabled the text prediction dictionary, as well as all notifications on my device, except for people close to me, and found a significant improvement in my quality of life.
I've read a lot of white papers on depression, anxiety, ADHD, chronic pain, the pharmacological science of drugs, the brain, and their relationship with each other. If you want a couple of good foundational starting points, look up: opiates, MU Receptors, dopamine transporters, and treatment-resistant depression. You'll learn a lot. When researching the topics of white papers, you can skim, and focus on the study's results/findings section. You can also copy the text and have ChatGPT condense the key takeaways for you.
Lastly, I HIGHLY recommend The Dr. Junkie Show podcast.
Good luck
