Hi, I'm not quite sure where this thread belongs so im going to put it in Other Drugs..feel free to move it.
Basically I was looking around the house for things to get high off and found two jars of whole nutmeg containing about 5-6 nuts in each. I ate all of them.
I'm quite tired now and want to go to sleep, but my question is will I wake up in a few hours extremely high from the Nutmeg? (According to the weight of the jars, I consumed around 70g)

If anyone could help it'd be much appreciated, thanks.

I remember thinking about trying this once and I did a little research on the substance and there was a bunch of shit about the kind of nutmeg and if it wasn't freshly ground/high quality than it wouldn't do shit and the high itself wasn't completely guaranteed like not everybody actually experienced side effects from it and the high itself if you actually felt it was horrible and could cause physical pain and terrifying hallucinations and was rarely pleasurable for anybody and it could take 24 hours to be converted into the active prodrug and last like 3 days and allllllllllll this other bullshit so i just said fuck it and bought weed.

So, if that nutmeg was the right kind and you are susceptible to the effects of it and it actually works....

70g will get you REALLY FUCKED UP AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS like really i mean i don't mean to be joking about it but that high of a dose is extremelyyyy potent and hepatotoxic and could make you delirious/psychotic and do damage to your being.

Now i'm not sure exactly of the likelihood of the above statement ^^^^ due to those factors previously mentioned, but regardless I would definitely be on the lookout just because 70g seems like an incredibly high dose to me. I hope there are others on BL who know more about this than i do but from what i know I would consider that to be very dangerous.

Please research substances you plan on ingesting more in the future to avoid stuff like this.

Ten nuts of nutmeg is a lot. I would probably think about getting to a hospital.

The only antidote is time and supportive care.

You'll very likely feel like utter shit for a few days.

Hey OP, care to post back here when you are feeling ok? It seems you chose the wrong legal/otc high and ingested a dangerous amount. Deliriants are not really a wise choice if you are seeking pleasure. Would like to hear you are doing ok though, and I can certainly recommend safer otc alternatives if you are really desperate to get high. I have never heard of someone ingesting nutmeg when they had access to better substances. Anyways deliriants ain't no recreational substance...

nutmeg gives you such a horrible high. hopefully you will end up feeling nothing, but more than likely you are going to regret taking it. that is the reason nutmeg is legal, the high is so shitty no one in their right mind wants to do it more than once

No one in their right mind wants to do it even once. Lol, imagine the harm reduction if marijuana was fully legal, just as an herb/plant like nutmeg. Who in their right mind would choose to poison themeself with nutmeg over breathing some green goodness? Even fungus should be legal imo. Fuck drug policies.

i couldnt agree more. its human nature to want to alter ones mind and perception. people have been doing it since the beginning of our existence. when you make something that is safe and fun like marijuana illegal people start doing really stupid shit to get high. (not judging. i have done it too, as well as all sorts of other bad ideas just to get a buzz)

Actually, since the two main active constitutes of nutmeg are Myristicin and Elemicin (both of which are anticholinergics at muscarine receptors), an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor would probably reverse many of the unpleasant side-effects. However, Myristicin probably has some monoaminergic activity as well.

It's probably very light, if it in fact does - but if it was powerful enough to produce noticeable effects - an antipsychotic would probably also be beneficial.

I tried nutmeg a year ago... I noticed that fresh nuts make me feel horrible, it's a very unpleasant feeling. Ground nutmeg however, produced the best 'high' I ever felt. It honestly felt better than codeine, benzos, alcohol, and baclofen. I only took 15g, 70g is way too much. Good luck, and let us know what happens.

EVER in comparison to ANY drug??

That almost makes me want to try it though every other report ever as been negative...

For whatever reason, the gold standard for stuff like atropine poisoning is time, rather than cholinergics. Probably because giving people physostigmine or friends is liable to cause more problems than it solves, like vomiting and cardiac problems. Trying to get the right level of choline is tricky.

Physostigmine (an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor) is sometimes used for treating BZ poisoning (the beznilic acid ester deleriant). Unfortunately it's not really a good antidote because you need to use a lot of it, administer it on a regular hourly schedule, and it's not as useful until you develop serious delerium anyway. So you have to sit by their bedside, watch their breathing and make sure they don't aspirate, and keep punching physostigmine into their buttocks or whatever.

Wiki - BZ said:
In BZ-intoxicated patients, physostigmine is minimally effective during the first four hours after exposure but is very effective after four hours. Oral dosing generally requires one and a half times the amount of antidote as does IM or IV administration. However, effects from a single intramuscular injection of physostigmine last only about 60 minutes, necessitating frequent re-dosing. It must be emphasized that physostigmine does not shorten the clinical course of BZ poisoning and that relapses will occur if treatment is discontinued prematurely. The temptation to substitute a slow intravenous infusion for intramuscular injections should be tempered by the awareness that IV infusion may lead to nerve-agent-like bradycardia, and too rapid infusion might cause arrhythmias, excessive secretions (to the point of compromising air exchange), and convulsions. Moreover, the sodium bisulfite in commercially available preparations of physostigmine may cause life-threatening allergic responses.

I never really bought that nutmeg essential oil is *just* an anticholinergic either. It's certainly not a serotonergic but maybe it has other wierd activities.

I've abused dimenhydrinate two weeks later, and I can definitely say that it's very different from anticholinergics.
It's similar to a high dose of hash without the anxiety/paranoia. Nutmeg made me very hungry, made my eyes red, dried my mouth, and gave me an amazing feeling whenever I would move my head. Music was much more enjoyable. So it's like a better version of cannabis IMO. I'm sure the effects vary from brand to brand, so you may have to try different brands before you find one that works.

Neither have I, to be honest. However, I'm 100% positive that it has Serotonergic activity in some way or another. Given the effects that most people describe from a pure nutmeg extract - I would even go as far to say that it may be a DSRI (Dopamine-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). It's affinities are most likely very minor, but 5HT binding is also likely in my opinion so that would contribute.

Nutmeg is a very versatile substance, that causes unique and euphorc experiences that I am often confused by people not getting and or downplaying.

Op,
-3-5 grams for antidepressant mood lift
-5-10 grams for physical relaxation, euphoria, and sense enhancement
-10- 20 grams for effects similar to edible cannabis + low dose MDA
-20+ grams for delieriant and lucid dream inducer

Takes almost 6 or 7 hours for effects to manifest. People almost always dose wrong.

100 percent? Based on... gut feeling?

It's ridiculous to say that you're 100 percent sure when there's no evidence to support you. I feel like there's probably some cannabimimetic effects because it does feel far more like a cannabinoid than a deleriant, though there's definitely a deleriant-esque quality that can't be ignored.

100 percent? Based on...

Based on the fact that one of its main active constitutes is an amphetamine-derivative. Based on the fact that the second largest component is Safrole; a methoxiline, Phenethylamine derivative.

Based on the fact that these chemicals are incredibly similar in molecular structure and effects profile, which is quite similar to many of the known amphetamine derivatives. We already know that the amphetamine 'group' is well-known for being monoaminergic releasers.

Also my post was an educated guess based on the above. In the past I made an 'educated guess' that Zolpidem produced its effects through Dopamine. You all (you included) told me that I was retarded, but what do you know! Studies have come out showing the mechanism behind Zolpidems powerful Dopaminergic effects!

So there's that too.
