Hello everyone ! has anyone tried ibuprofen or celecoxib for treating depression and anxiety ? if so I will be glad to hear about your experience or information about thease medication 's effects on mood and also dosage , thank you !

I've used ibuprofen before for pain but not familiar with celecoxib, (Celebrex) which are both NSAID anti-inflammatories. From wiki: "There's tentative evidence celecoxib's use in treating a number of psychiatric disorders, including major depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia." I'm not sure if I would want to use that because of the risk of gastrointestinal complications with NSAIDS.

Have you spoken to a physician about your depression? They would be able to diagnose you and prescribe something safer I think.

Thanks for the respond , I have been under treatment for depression including almost all class of antideppressant and ECT along with years of therapy sessions for 5 years with no improvment at all anly worsen , so I am considering this type of medicines Cuz there is not much of options left on the table , I have a what so called treatment resistand depression or an untreatble on , so I can't get any benefits out of availible treatment for depression and anxiety ,

I have also used those medications for inflammation/pain, but they cause GI bleeding (for me). Have you tried exercise? Talk with your doctor since you've tried a lot of medications. Running helps me a lot in this area...I'm also on a low dose of citalopram (Celexa-just 20mg)...but I don't think it does as much as running. Running makes me feel happy (like I've accomplished something).

I take Ibuprofen to help the arthritis like pains i get in my joints and i have taken Celecoxib in the past for a few injuries but i don't find it to work nearly as good as a anti-inflammatory as Ibuprofen is. Neither of these drugs or any other anti-inflammatory is going to do anything for your depression.

Whenever i hear people say they have run out of options in trying to help their depression what that usually means is they have tried everything their doctor usually tries for depression and this means they get labelled as having treatment resistant depression. Have you tried Tricyclic anti-depressants, MAOI anti-depressants and atypical anti-psychotics such as Seroquel or Zyprexa? If you haven't i would suggest giving a Tricyclic a try. The type of anti-depressant that works best for you often depends on what type of depression you have. If you have the i can't sleep and am full of anxiety type of depression then a sedating anti-depressant such as the tricyclic's Trimipramine, Amitriptyline or Doxepin may help. I get the can't stay awake and have no energy type of bipolar depression but Amitriptyline helped me alot and Trimipramine also helped even though it's more sedating then most anti-d's. If you also get the type of depression where you can't get enough sleep a more activating anti-depressant such as Bupropion (Wellbutrin aka Zyban) or the Tricyclic Imipramine may help. Some of the MAOI's like Parnate and Selegiline (available in patch form as Emsam and also in pill form) also tend to be activating for most people.

As a last resort stimulants like Methylphenidate or even Amphetamines like Dexedrine or Adderall could be tried though i would say to leave them as a absolute last resort given how addictive Amphetamines can be for some people. There are also more experimental treatments such as Ketamine that do help some people and it has helped me in the past.

I take ibuprofen daily for chronic pain. Not sure whether it helps my depression, but it does keep my head "clear" and free of headaches. (Headaches and mood swings go hand-in-hand for me).

From my understanding Celebrex is similar to Vioxx, which was removed from the market due to heart attack and stroke. Both are COX-2 inhibitors whereas OTC NSAIDs are slightly different. If I was gonna take an NSAID daily for depression, I'd probably go with aspirin or ibuprofen. Aspirin has the added benefit of preventing blood clots, heart attacks and colon cancer.

Ya i forgot about that. Because the Cox-2 inhibitors not only ended up not only causing a much higher incidence of heart problems compared to Cox 1 and 2 inhibitors such as Ibuprofen, Naproxyn, etc but the fact that they turned out to be no easier on the stomach in the long run as well they where a total flop. Other Cox-2 inhibitors such as Meloxicam where also removed from the market due to cardiotoxicity. I was given a fare share of Viox as well as that and Celebrex for my bad joint pain. It does of course help your mood if you don't feel like your joints are killing you.

I take 800mg's of Ibuprofen at a time up to 4 times a day which is a pretty heavy dose. I only take it when i really need it because if i take it often my stomach doesn't like it

I was actually in a very similar circumstance and it turned out I was misdiagnosed with depression. What I actually had was hypothyroidism which has all of the symptoms of depression with the exception of one major thing...most medications are rendered useless. Look it up and if you have those symptoms make your pdoc order the blood work, all it takes is a simple test to find out.

Hi , thank u paranoid android , I am considering parnate myself as I heard it's working good for the very deep depression types witch I have , well unfortunately ketamine is not availible in the country where I live ( Sweden ) otherwise It would be my first treatment of choise Cuz I am really tired of trying diffrent meds with no benefit at all ! Anly worsen ! I have gave a shot to most treatment you mention here Like antipsycotic and SSRI and Snri's wellbutrin ,The stimulants (vyvanse . Ritalin , conserta ) , no need to mention that my case is a very complex one and it's perfectionist narssicism related along with PTSD witch made it a louded gun , but TCA and MAOI are the types that I haven't tried yet , I don't think I would ever try TCA's Cuz to me they sound very much like ssri or Snri's . So will see , please Let me know if you had any other idea , Have a good one !

I can't handle the newer SNRI's at all and Venlafaxine was the only SNRI or SSRI i have ever been put on and id made me impulsive, violent and very manic like. However Amitriptyline which is a Tricyclic that just happens to be a SNRI was one of the best anti-depressants i have ever taken and it never made me manic even though i ended up on the max outpatient dose which is 150mg's a day. Trimipramine which also acts as somewhat of a SNRI as well as a mild anti-psychotic as it acts as somewhat of D2 antagonist also never triggered any mania or any bad side effects in me. For some reason Tricyclics don't generally cause sexual dysfunction and other side effects like that that SSRI's and SNRI's are famous for causing so maybe they work somewhat differently then SNRI's because i got sexual side effects from Venlafaxine that where awful but neither Amitriptyline or Trimipramine have ever done that to me at all.

As for MAOI's ones like Parnate can be rather activating and often work when everything else has failed. I would give the Emsam patch (Selegiline) a try first though if your insurance covers it or you can afford it and it's available in your country. Selegiline is only available here in tablet form for treating Parkinson's but many people order the pills online or get them from their doctor off label. In small doses Selegiline acts as a selective irreversible inhibitor of MAO-B but in higher doses it looses it's selectivity and inhibits MAO-A as well. Once it looses it's selectivity you need to observe the typical diet and drug restriction that come with MAOI's but if your using the Emsam patch you bypass the stomach thus doses that inhibit MAO-A and B can be used without worrying about food restrictions. If you can't afford that or don't have the insurance for it Parnate would be the one id go for personally as it seems to be one of if not the best MAOI for treating the no energy type of depression.

hi
I don't have depression, but I do get extremely tied and develop painful headakes after a long day of studying. Onday I came home with a bad headache and took too ibuprophen pills. I fell a sleep for 10 minutes and woke up feeling amazing. I have never used a psychoactive medication or drug before, so I can't be sure it was the ibuprophen, but unusually I felt more confident and carm. I have used paracetamol in similar situations and felt nothing good apart from pain releafe
