Ok heres a quick story about it. SWIM was on xanax for about 5-6 years, my dr thought it would be a good idea to switch SWIM to kpins (i was unhappy but couldnt argue). So from then on SWIM was on kpin 1mg up to 5 a day for almost 2 years. He just recently put SWIM back on xanax. 2mg bars. The first bar SWIM took, I felt it. But now SWIM doesn't feel jack sh*t. SWIM thought maybe it was because of the kpins but SWIM was off of kpins for 3 weeks before my DR re-prescribed the xanax. SWIM should have NOOO xanax tolerance at all at this point but they dont work like they used to. Is it because when SWIM took the kpins they were SO weak SWIM had to take around 20 1mg at a time? But with them being different drugs swim didnt think that would be a problem. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Agreed, could just be OP's own level of tolerance. I've learned an amazing amount here at BL about how peoples' tolerances to benzos can vary. Some find that they stop working in a very short period of time, and taking the meds simply wards off withdrawal to some extent. And some people stay on the same dosage for years.

You have been taking benzos for years.. its tolerance!

Thats what I thought but when I was on the xanax, i never once had a problem with tolerance. This is the first and only time ive ever been on xanax where im having a 'tolerance' problem. I dont understand it. When i was on the xanax for 5-6 years, I always got what I expected from them every single time. As I said I got off xanax for over 2 years to switch to klonopin, and now im back on xanax. kpins are weaker than xanax so i dont see how kpins could have raised my tolerance level so high that the xanax doesnt work at all anymore. Could this possibly also have something to do with me coming off of suboxone also?

After years of benzos use and abuse does the tolerance ever go away? Or is it one of those MDMA type lost the magic things?

I can tell you... when I abuse xanax .. its usually 10-14 mgs in a day... I got to the point where I was taking about 30 mgs every week.

I tapered down to only 1 mg a day.. and stayed there for 4 months.... I thought my tolerance would essentially be gone, and 4 mgs would get me high.. well it took me 8 instead of 10-14.. and within days I was back up to my high doses... benzo tolerance takes a LONG time to start going down.. and can rise SUPER fast .. especially after a history of abuse.

Klonopin is NOT weaker than Xanax, though it feels weaker for many (myself included and significantly so) because it has a much slower onset and longer half-life. Also, just because you were off Xanax when you were on Klonopin does not mean you're tolerance to Xanax would drop, even with the three week break all together. Benzos are highly cross-tolerant and if you are tolerant to one you are tolerant to all to varying degrees.

physiologically that makes sense. almost like muscle memory for your GABA receptors.

Basically your gaba receptors have been hit daily for that long, you will no longer 'feel high' off them rather they will just take withdrawal away and you will feel function able.
IMO you should NOT be on benzos for that long, memory and cognitive function as well as other things all decline. I noticed it in just a few months, it does not feel right. Maybe you should try weaning off and facing the world as you should , not in a dumbed down benzo state. I know how bad anxiety can suck, but being addicted to benzos suck pretty bad to.

I'm new to these kind of forums. But there is already one thing I hate with passion: The swimmers.
What's the point of using "SWIM" and "MY doctor" in the same sentence? so tired of all these 2 digit IQ swimmers. People who use this term have low to non existent self esteem I guess. no sympathy. I suspect the mods might delete my message, go ahead, but I felt the urge to throw in my 2 cents.
