I think I am addicted to weed??? LOL...

I can not believe it! I never have really loved the stuff before but over the past 2.5 months I have started smoking weed on a daily basis, around 6 grams a week which is a lot for me.

So last week I tried to go a day with out it and I did alright but when it came time to go to bed I couldn't fall asleep even though I was tired, all I thought was about getting some weed, so I stayed up smoking cigs and reading forums for around 8 hrs till I could get some more. I got it, smoked it and slept.

I tried again last night when I had none and I just couldn't sleep even though I was tired once again, in fact I was pretty stressed. It's not the fact that I have to be stoned (well it is a lot) but if I have weed which is already chopped up and next to me I feel a sense of relief since it's so close to me. I even tried drinking a few beers to put me to sleep.

Over the past 6 weeks weed has kind of taken over my life, all I do is get stoned and am used to doing my daily things like this. It does cost me a bit but I can afford it, the bad thing is my memory and how I am unable to sleep.

Can anyone give me tips on trying to quit? At the moment I am going to try and just do 2 cones before bed so I can sleep alright, that way it isn't to much and it will last me a while - I don't think it will work though because I just had 4 cones and now I am writing this?? 8o

Cheers,

MM

Having insomnia is a very common withdrawal symptom for pot, since you haven't been smoking daily for too long I doubt it would last more than a few days if you just stuck to not smoking for a while.

In general though, its pretty much unavoidable.. You might want to try going for a short run an hour before bed, I find that helps me personally. Some melatonin an hour or two before bed can also often times help out some people with their stoner-insomnia. You could also try OTC sleep aids, drinking white tea before bed, ect, ect.

There are a million possible options to help with the insomnia, but my actual advice to you would be to stop smoking all-together for a few weeks.. And when you jump back on the pot-smokers bandwagon, be more much moderate about it (smoking weed should really never be top-priority over other things). If your finding yourself high all day and not comfortable doing things without being high, your more than likely smoking too much day to day..

Goodluck mate.

also..

lol

6 grams a week is not that much, dont worry.
Try some otc sleep aids, they work. Or go talk your doctor about insomnia.

I wouldn't recommend getting put on prescription sleep aids for insomnia brought on by chronic pot smoking.. At least not without a much larger habit on your hands.

It's hard, if you can go for a jog (the longer the better) to try and absolutely exhaust yourself earlier on in the day that can work. It doesn't matter so much how fast you jog just how long you go for. Try to do an hour long or an hour and a half, by then you should be completely exhausted. Also you don't have to jog you can just go for a very long walk to clear your head. If you're jogging and you feel like you can't anymore because you're out of breath try walking until you can jog for a little bit, then walk again when you get out of breath.

You should make sure that jog is an hour long, after an hour of physical exertion an opiate-like nuero-transmitter called endorphins are released and many ex-stoners say they are great for combating withdraws.

I would not rush to treat your insomnia with pharmaceuticals, use melatonin it is a natural sleep regulator.

Good luck.

Yeah, I was going to recommend that as well Kaneh Bosm, melatonin is a great sleep aid, 2 mg works perfect for me.

Dude this happens to alot of people. I used to be a bong head hard. 6 grams a week isn't much at all but its enough to be problematic with a lower tolerance (which you obviously have after only 2.5 months of daily smoking). I am not the best person to give advice because since I had to give up weed I now drink and/or use benzos to sleep daily.

It wouldn't be that hard to stop if you can handle like a week of no sleep, if that. I ain't belittling your problem or anything but 2 and a half months just isn't a long time to be using a drug like weed daily. I find after a week or so most of my nagging cravings to smoke go away as long as I have an alternative sleeping aid, but I have always been an insomniac. If you quit successfully you might have to have a decent break, I find if you fuck up and smoke even just once, the cravings nag at you for atleast a couple of days afterwards.

Seriously though, I don't personally view daily cannabis use as THAT much of a problem, especially if you can keep it to just at night before bed or atleast after all your responsibilities. I found the main way weed affected me negatively (other than fucked lungs from smoking bongs 24/7) was socially, so its best to avoid it in these circumstances. With a tolerance as low as yours obviously is, having a good 5 to 10 pipes in the hour or two lead up before you crash is hardly a debilitating addiction. I ain't really encouraging you to "stay addicted" or whatever, just saying maybe its worth considering if you get more out of it than its actually taking away from you.

I actually noticed when I smoked pretty much regularly I'd always feel good, my grades were fine, didn't have many problems. But now because of situations that have occured, I don't smoke that much anymore, under a lot of stress, my grade dropped in one class, had to cut back smoking alot. I was confined to smoking in the morning before school or at night on weekends but then I almost got caught doing it by my mom so I haven't smoked in about a mouth, I'm hoping to get some soon because my tolerance must of dropped alot. I could make 3.5 grams last me a week or even two, when I'm grounded.

^ Figured that would come up.

Unfortunately that is the funniest and most memorable part of the movie, the rest of it is trash.

Ok..... You actually w/d when there is no bud or do you just get cranky? I've smoked weed daily for 6-7 years and have had many addictions in that time, not one of which was on par with weed.

Well it seems you don't know too much about forming a normal smoking situation. Smoke how much whenever you want/can that your comfortable with.. Don't smoke if you don't feel like smoking, (duh?) would you jump off a cliff if you didn't want to =/?

Like if you wanna smoke a joint every couple days, or a gram a day, or 2 grams a day, whatever. Aslong as your fine with how much you smoke and it's not negative.

Thanks for everyones posts, just read all of them!

I have just under a gram left atm so I am going to try and do some fitness before I go to bed each night to make me tired until then I am going to smoke the rest of this and go cold turkey since many of you said 6 grams a week isn't that much and 2.5 months isn't that long, so hopefully I get over it in a few days. Starting tomorrow night!

If that doesn't work then a few users mentioned melatonin, I'll check it out at the chemist.

Too Many Doses - I am not sure if I withdraw? I do get a bit angry, stressed and a bit sad if I have no weed left but once I tell myself "Dw mannnnnn we will get some in 5 hrssssss dudeeeee" then everything is okay, I just stay up for 5 hours!

drug mentor - You're right that weed isn't that bad IF you can be bothered to do your daily erens, shopping, mail, work etc etc and you only have it at night time BUT that isn't the case with me, can't remember a day in a while where I have turned up to work sobar, but my jobs sooo boring, sitting down on a computer talking to idiots all dat... So I kind of need it! :-p

So once this gram is finished I am going to try and give it a break for a month, dunno if you will be interested but I'll post updates in here.

The current odds are 1:6

If you put $1.00 on me to give up weed for a month you will get 6.00 back and vice versa... :p

Well I am like, not fine with like, how much weed I smoke so like, this is the reason for the thread. Helping me to stop.

I would want to smoke 10 joints a day but that would be like negative.

And, I like def wouldn't jump off a cliff if I didn't have to, not to sure how that relates to the situation but thanks for your input.

Sorry man, don't gotta make fun of me cause I'm not like you.. Fuck, I was just trying to help you!

weeds not physcally addictive(thank god), but i cirtainly think theres some mental addiction to it, thats for sure imo.

ya your not going to get sick if you dont smoke for a day or whatever but many people, including me can get sort of cranky. Just find something to occupy your time and not think too much about it you'll be fine
