Harm Reduction [HR] [heroin] vein in head popping out, is it from shooting up?

I have been shooting up heroin for a couple years now, and more recently, I've been doing speedballs with coke and H. Lately I've noticed that my wrist/hand will start really hurting and it definitely feels like a circulation problem. Almost like my veins might be clogged. I'll kind of rub out the veins in my hand and it will feel better. Keep in mind this isn't just when I'm shooting but randomly, even when I havent touched the shit in days.

Today, after doing shots, the pain happened again. My hand was hurting and just overall feels weird. I rubbed it out and went to look in the mirror cuz my head was throbbing a little bit also. To my surprise, my two veins (maybe its one, not sure) in my forehead were huge. They never pop out and I hardly ever see them. But they were popping out more than usual for sure.

Is this a product of continued IV use over the past 2 years? Are my veins clogged from possibly shots not getting filtered into my rig right? I usually try to make sure there's nothing but liquid before I shoot, but I guess there has been times other people cooked it and I just didn't bother to check of they filtered it right. I could have not even noticed floaties countless times. Is this something I should be worried about?

If I do infact have clogged veins, is there anything I can do to fix it? Or is it such bad damage that its irreversible? Clogged veins sounds like something that could be fatal if it can't be fixed.

Please let me know what's going on with me and what I should do. I'm really worried, I don't want to just fall asleep and have my blood stop flowing. Am I fucked? Or am I freaking out about something that is totally irrelevant? Cuz I'm kind of feeling like I'm totally fucked right now.

If your veins are 'clogged' it means you have permanent swelling and hardness in them from scar tissue. If you have enough of this sort of 'partial clogging' to notice an effect on your overall circulation, you're almost certain to have 'absolute clogging' in the form of entirely collapsed veins, where scars have effectively sealed a vein shut either as a result of too much abuse at a given location without allowing time for healing, too much reusing of needles that cause larger, more jagged punctures each use, or perhaps scarring of a valve caused by puncturing and injecting into it, causing the valve to seal shut. Have you injected enough to have lost some veins for good? It's easy to notice because a vein will cease to respond to a torniquet, and you'll notice other veins in the area picking up the slack, either becoming engorged with more blood than in the past or appearing from deep within where you didn't even know you had a viable vein. If you have some complete collapses, this can have an overall negative impact on your circulation in a given extremity, and like any diabetic would tell you, or any skinny person that gets cold feet in the winter, when circulation slows, pain ensues.

There's not much you can do about it. When I've had partial collapses due to swelling, I've made sure to warm the clogged spot a couple times every day to try to get SOME blood to pass through after dilating the vein. How useful is this in keeping a vein from sealing 100% upon healing fully? I don't know, but it can't hurt. If you think you have generally clogged but not blocked veins, there's really nothing I can recommend. You probably already realize cocaine is harder on your veins, though. I'd do less speedballs to prevent further inflammation not caused by the puncture itself.

I think the coke is jacking your blood pressure up causing you viens to bulge. As for the pain it could be alot of different things.

I don't have any collapsed veins. None of my veins are black and I still feel them all the same. Theres maybe one I can see a bit more but it is higher up and I really don't think its collapsed..

By the way, the pain isn't anywhere near the injection site. I hit my main veins up higher. It's on my left wrist/hand that hurts, and though I try to balance out between arms, I tend to like to use my left.

I know the coke probably doesn't help the situation, I am at the very least stopping that for sure.

Please go to a doctor where you can be properly treated. One poster already said he lost his fingers due to shooting up coke, do you want something like that to happen?

Drugs aren't worth your life, or even a limb.

I don't have health insurance, so its kind of hard to just goto the doctor as much as I would like. That's sort of why I'm asking here first.

I understand that they aren't, I'm trying hard to quit using and have plans to stop. I'm moving to the mountains to start school soon and by then it will be out of the picture. I'll also be 9 hours away from getting it.

I thank you for your concern and probably will head your advice soon if that's what is needed.

Edit: I've been told that if I'm lucky it COULD just be a lack of iron..?

I failed to address your forehead veins at all (if that's short-term and goes away soon, it's just part of the coke use I think) but I didn't mean to imply the pain would be near the injection site. It's the tips of your extremities (in your case, hands and fingers) that will suffer the most from blockage of veins closer to your heart. I wouldn't expect collapsed veins to turn black or like something from Requiem for a Dream, by the way--scar tissue is white and they'll usually simply shrink, harden, and fade away, devoid of blood on the heart-side and with only a little on the extremity-side. I agree that it doesn't sound like you have any total collapses, though. Each one is a sad day you'd not soon forget :P

I think when you completely stop shooting coke these things will improve--that is, until you really do start losing veins ;) I'd be more than a little alarmed about the health of the vascular structure of my brain if those forehead veins don't settle down, though. I don't know how much coke you've done, but every time you shoot it it's doing GLOBAL damage to your vascular system, not just in its own cardiotoxic, vasoconstrictive effects, but by the nature of its direct effect on tissues (nothing will fuck your nose up faster, not even drugs that 'burn like hell' like ketamine, meth, or 2C-B, so you can imagine that shit in your veins).
