I'm a young male in his 20s, just got my first STD: HPV.
My doctor started me on Aldara (IMIQUIMOD) and this shit is brutal. They prescribe it for skin cancer usually, it works on the immune system with interferon, hardcore stuff.
The warts themselves were minimal and unobtrusive, but since starting the treatment, it's caused me extreme pain, discomfort, redness, itching, burning, the skin on my balls is raw. I don't have warts on my balls, it's just a reaction to the topical medication.
Does anyone else have experience with male HPV? I know what HPV is, I've done my homework so I don't need basic 411, but experiences would be great, with male HPV or the Aldara topical cream. HPV is extremely contagious and can survive on non-living surfaces for like 30 days, you can get HPV by walking barefoot on the same ground/floor/carpet where someone with a wart on their foot walked. And yeah, this sounds pretty ludicrous like a religious anti-sex scare story, but my doctors and various credible online sources have confirmed this. I really don't want to transmit the virus to my mouth because if I touch the affected area, the virus will transfer to my finger tips. What kills HPV on surfaces, or better yet, skin? I have some pretty hardcore chemicals laying around.
How often did you have to apply the Aldara? Even when RX'd for cancer, it's not instructed to be used daily, but I'm supposed to be applying it daily and there's no way I can do that due to the side effects.
Last of all, did anyone else get the rare but serious side effects consisting of Flu-like symptoms (undoubtably due to it's mechanism of action with the immune system)??? When applying the cream before bed, I wake up with chills, nausea, muscle weakness, dysphoria, etc. Yes I have told my doctor. Did these side effects go away if I press on and keep applying it, will I get tolerant to the side effects?
