How would someone go about starting a place to rave?

you won't. the extent of a rave you'll ever realistically be able to pull of is a "rave" in your house/basement or friends house when parents are out of town... Suburbs... you will never be able to find any abandon factories or anything like that so don't even try. :)

I'm from detroit and raves are very common here. Most of them are sanctioned by the city in some way so aren't "technically" illegal, therefore we usually dont get hassled. Plus electronic music is really popular here, so scenes like that are pretty much tolerated. Underground factory raves that you speak of are really difficult to set up, as you need a secluded spot to do so, djs and many thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment ect ect. You also need the outreach, but not so much as to alert authorities. Basically, if you dont have a sanctioned event at some sort of venue, dont even bother.

i know mailing lists are used a lot in the rave scene, though I imagine that's going out of style, 's all i know really about how they communicate.

if you have the location set, or a good way of finding locations, your main problem is networking, the same problem in setting up anything involving people ahead of time. Talk to people about the idea in vague terms, at one point one of them will say "cool" and there's a partner. Then you both get trusted friends to tell their friends to their friends, and if your close friends aren't into dancing to edm yet all it takes is one good party and they'll see it's not bad.

You know, a lot of people will say "raves are only possible if you live in the big city in FL, MI, CA, NY, etc" but I'm going to be honest I once was passing through Tennessee and even passing through a day or two I could see they had a huge scene there. surprised me.

there is local events all the time in nola and in Lafayette. so LA does have events where djs gather at all the time

Raves happen all over... people try to avoid calling them a rave here... More just like a party or a outlaw(illegal party)...

Your best bet is a through a party at a club, rent it out a night, get your own Dj's make flyers and such and send them to people...

Or

Get a Generator
some decks
Mixers
Music
Dj

people

and you got a party... I have been to party in the woods with like 10 people to 500+

^ Use the google.

I just googled "NOLA raves" and these two links popped up:

In terms of underground raves, you pretty much need a secluded place you can trust. You can even do it at a friend's house/farm if they are far enough away from the neighbors not to have the cops call.

You need a crew of people who know how to set up and properly run the following:
electricity sources
sound systems (you don't want to blow anything out, speakers are expensive!)
mixer and turntables

Then you have to get the djs ($, or find friends who will do it for free)

you need to advertise, unless you're just inviting your friends

and then there are all the other conditions: food, water (very important), security (very important: if you invite random people, they will try to steal shit if its underground).

Basically, i would advise against underground raves, too many risks, and get in with a promotion company that does actual, permitted "all-ages events" or "21+ club events" and learn how the business works. If you follow the right rules, you can have a really fun event that is sanctioned and safe!

Is there anywhere you could get to that is a -very- secluded area but still not unreasonably far out of town?

I'd say do something outdoors in like some field somewhere, try to procure a generator or something, and throw a crazy party! Have people bring tents to camp in, trailers or whatever, get creative! If you know someone with a farm or something, a barn, silo, hangar, all these locations make for great raves!

I basically just attended something like that this weekend. Some guy owns several acres of land out in the middle of nowhere, and every year he throws a huge event where 100s of hippies come from all corners, pitch tents everywhere, and PARTY ALL NIGHT in the outdoors, DJ spinning until about 4:30am, everyone trippin', rollin', smokin', not a single authority figure in sight. Epic time as long as everyone has a common respect. It wasn't a 'rave' as much as it was a small scale festival which is probably what you're going for.

Don't be dumb and have it at someone's residence though even if they have a ton of land. Rave+drugs+loud music+someone's name/home to tie to all to=bad. At least if it's in some secluded place where it's JUST land, and the landowner doesn't actually live directly nearby, and for some reason authorities do show up and break it up, the owner could always be like "It was the middle of the night, I was in bed at my home, I had no idea a bunch of kids threw a party on my land, what was I supposed to do?" :P

That excuse might get you out of some simple noise ordinance issues and such, however if some dumbass OD's or some serious shit goes down, I dunno how far that excuse will get you.

Old thread guys. Chances are the OP won't respond and bluelight isn't here to help people break any laws not even trespassing. As many have said a sanctioned legal event or a private party are your best options. Closed
