Ive been seeing my pain doctor for about 5 months now. he started me on fentanyl patches for long term relief, they didnt work. then he put me on 30mg morphine. then 60, then 90, now 100. I keep telling him that its not working but he wont switch me to oxycontin because of its rep. How can i convince him to switch me to oxycontin? or am i just gonna have to climb the morphine ladder until he finally switches me?

That morphine latter is pretty damn high, You have a while to go if you ride this out.

The doc will not listen to you... He seems like he has his/her mindset on lock...

yea, he never said oxycontin was out of the question. and he seems to be folding. im hoping that my next visit yields results. because i was on OC before and he knows that and this morphine is doing squat. so hopefully when he sees that 200mg a day of morphine isnt working he will change me

This might just happen. He might just go ahead and do it reluctantly.

But.... He might not give you an effective Oxycontin dose right off the bat...

Thats probably true. He will probably start me off at a really low dose and use it as an excuse that its not very effective

Just be grateful your on morph, theres a lot of people stuck on tramadol, if you whinge about it too much they will start weening you off, it's not 2001 anymore!

yeah just work on an increase of what ur already on in a subtle way and discuss its losing its effectiveness, he may perhaps change ur narcotic to what he feels willl be better for u, aybe ur luck oxy, i;d wait 4 months brining up oxy if he made it clear he dont sound like an advocate for it

I thought the new ones only sucked because they cant be abused easily? Im not looking to break them up. and UpdownUP I am grateful I am on morphine, I just wish it worked. And I will wait a while to bring it up to my doc again. who knows, maybe while i wait we find the right dose of morphine?

Maybe try bringing up opana. Its pretty great and slightly less of a bad rap.

I tried an opana once it was 40mg I believe. It really didnt do much for me, im not sure why, my friend who takes them swears by them like whoa. but it brought my pain level from about an 8 to a 6. which is better than nothing but it would still require me to take my breakthrough meds. what doses do the come in? I will bring it up to him if it goes in a high enough dose.

Why are you so sure that OxyContin will help your pain? Don't tell your doctor that the Morphine is losing its effectiveness. He will take that as a sign of tolerance and doctors want to prevent that as much as possible. Be patient and just continue to tell him that the Morphine isn't working (be honest) and if you get to like 200mg and still not working then just say, "you know, the oxycodone was much more effective for my pain in less doses than this Morphine". Something like that.

Ive been on oxycontin before. After the car accident that started all of this. I was on 40mg twice a day and barely needed my breakthough meds. I didnt tell him its losing its effectiveness, I told him the truth, morphine just doesnt work well wth me for some reason. even in the hospital they have to give me dilaudid instead when im in pain because even IV morphine doesnt work well on me. Im just worried that if he keeps upping my dose of morphine my tolerance will increase to the point of no return, and why would i want that to happen when i know something tried, tested and true for me?

Just because something worked for one thing, doesn't mean it'll work for something else, K'd-OUT is bang right, the doc will start to look for alternatives like fucking patches, and other shit stuff that isn't addictive but in turn most often, isn't effective.
You're on Bluelight, which would suggest that there is an element of recreational(ism) in your motives, not accusing, just throwing it out there...

There is a sure fire way to enjoy them, and properly take the pain away, but that's heading down a very bad path, specially with the amount you have, so I ain't suggesting it but when I was legitimatly hurting, they took me off a morphine drip, and put me on oxycontin because "gram for gram oxycodone is stronger than morphine" I was well chuffed, so I got home, snorted 80mgs, and....nothing. Morph and Oxy use the same receptors, your tolerance for oxy will already be affected by the daily morphine.
If you are really hurting tell em, they can take the dose well up past 100mgs, and by the time you get that far up the dose ladder, you aint gonna be getting anything else, and even if you did, it wouldn't help/be fun/help...

Talk to your pain doc man, they know their shit, pain can be managed, and you might of drawn the short straw in the physician you have been given, but oxy might just be out of reach mate..

You tried a weed?

I decided I didn't want to be on morphine I just complained about side effects... It's what I do whenever I don't like a med... complain of a common side effect!

Not a good idea man, side effects of what you're on and what you want, are practically identical, except for maybe some kind of genital rash, or other <0.5% bizarre ailment!

theyve tried fen patches on me already but my skin isnt receptive to patches very well. and youre right I am on here due to some recreational stuff. I still like to enjoy my opiates, but the morphine has pushed my tolerance so high that i can enjoy a couple roxys i have to have 6 of em. and i think the oxy contin would still work because its the same pain. my back got all jacked up in a car accident. but the morphine honestly isnt helping the pain, the only time i get relief of any sort is when i take the roxys. and ive told my doc that. hopefully if he keeps upping the dose of morphine instead of switching me ill find a dose that keeps the pain at bay. im just worried that ill never have fun with them again too. but i guess pain relief is more important right?
