How to fix a blown out sub....

So... how do I do it? Is it possible? Or more, is it plausible?

The sub on my computer blew out a while ago... now the bass lines come all shitty and distorted :( and I love my bass.


So can I fix this? Or do I need a new one? This one is hella old, but its good and I dont want to get a new one if I dont have too

I'd say just try to find an identical used sub on ebay.

Right now we are having to recone one of our 21" subs in our bass rig and it's not going to be cheap

yeah that sucks.. a blown 21" is gonna cost ya.. im guessing its a cerwin vega?...

anyway it depends on how the sub blew.. the most common is actually a separated surround.. you look at the edges and see if they came loose and if so it can be fixed with silicone adhesive... second most common problem is burned voice coil (you basically order a new one from the manu...).. third is bent/deformed voice coil... this happens when you push the sub past its maximum mechanical excursion and the coil cylinder impacts the back of the speaker magnet and deforms... again order a replacement... finally it can be a blown amplifier... if one of the drive transistors fails the bass will come out distorted as well.. you find out which by trying the sub on a different amp or amp with a different sub to see which works...

Only like 10'x1", but the bastard had enough bass to rock my whole house lol. I'd just rather not have to buy new ones


I tried to open it up, got all the screws out, except the last one... its like half way out, but no matter how much I turn the screw it wont tighten or loosen any more... I even tried a drill. Right now the front part will come off, but it gets stuck after like an inch and wont go any further, I guess Im still picking up the inner parts with the front plate..
 
Any one know about the screws though? That's what is holding me back right now...

The entire back like 9"x11" is all one plastic box, all the screws are on a front panel, and that is the only thing that comes off. 4 screws in the corner let me pick the panel up, but it got stuck after an inch. I undid another like 5, but there is one last screw that is stuck and not going in or out...
 
I don't think anybody is going to be able to give you a step for step on opening up your speaker enclosure. If you can't figure it out yourself you're probably out of luck, sorry bro :(

They usually glue or somehow seal the box together in addition to screws, so that's probably what's keeping the panel or whatever on.

THIS! BUT, It's a BITCH and you need silicone, qtips, alcohol, possibly even smaller tools depeding how narrow VC and bottom magnet are... Also would benifit from a good magnet to get all those cooked up metal shards in there...
It's hard bro but CAN be done... get you a cheap replacement... HELL OF A LOT EASIER!

We just got this system from a club that closed down and it honestly sounds better stacked than it did installed.

They are Fulcrum Acoustic US221's

Levi...your neighbors would kill you.

Our parties are so bass-heavy that we actually have pretty big groups of deaf kids roll in from Gallaudet University, which is, I believe, the only deaf university in the U.S. and it's located in DC.

i gave a light show and chilled with some deaf peeps at fall massive haha, they love the bass. and folley i gotta say dude if your getting hung up on getting the back panel off you might have to scrap the subs and get a new system
