Apparently the recommended intake is around 2 litres. dunno how people can survive on that little, i approximate around 6 litres a day. how much do you drink?

I know 8 glasses of water is the ideal, but I don't drink anywhere near that. I love beverages so I tend to sip on different things throughout the day - gatorade, tea, soda, milk, lemonade - and I kind of forget about water. Definitely something I need to work on haha. I think I only drink around 4 glasses a day right now :/

1.5 to 2 gallons. I sweat 0.75 gallons (6 pounds) during my daylight runs and do most of my hydration in the hour before and after running.

I drink six to eight liters a day and only monitor it to make sure I don't go overboard as my doctor cut me off. Was drinking nine to twelve liters in a day and had lab work run that shows I should not be drinking that much. We're not trying to get to the bottom of things. Am seeing a renal specialist tomorrow, actually.

I usually shoot for at least 3-4 liters. The "8 glasses a day thing" is sort of misleading IMO. That's also assuming a "glass" is an 8 U.S. fl. oz. serving (237mL), and most household glasses (at least in my experience) are pint (16 U.S. fl. oz. (474mL)) sized glasses anyway.

I end up having between 2-4L most days, sometimes more, sometimes less...
If exercising I will up my fluid intake a lot to compensate for fluid loss, and if I'm partying I try very hard to drink a cup (250ml) of water an hour minimum, depending on what sort of partying ;)

Incidentally, the new 'here is the amount' for recommended daily intake is 30ml per kilogram of body weight... for example 70kg person would then be recommended 2.1L fluid, and then advised to add extra for fluid loss from exercise or what not.
We get fluid from sources other than just water though, and even tea and coffee provide us with some of our daily fluid needs, despite the caffein & diuretic effects...

I definitely feel better, more alert and have nicer skin when I am being a good water drinker, and I find good hydration helps more to combat fatigue than a cup of coffee usually...
My biggest 'drink more water easily' tip is to keep a bottle in the car, and make it one of the ones with a pop top so that you can just grab it and drink, without buggerising around with screw tops, which ends up hindering your water-sippage...
As Henry Rollins said, "Be drinkable!!!"
:D

I end up drinking between 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, sometimes less. There's water in a lot of drinks, so it doesn't have to be straight up water. Like if you make tea or drink gatorade for example. I used to drink like 12 bottles of water a day and that fucked my body up pretty bad. That was before I knew about how to properly maintain hydration. You have to have a balance of water and electrolytes, or your body is just overloaded.

I drink over 2L of tea alone (mainly green tea, also astragalus memebraneceus, fenugreek).

I drink six to eight liters of water, as I said up there, and I do not take any special measures to replace lost electrolytes. That was one of the tests I had done recently by my doctor, and those came back fine. (What didn't come back fine was the stress I'm putting on my kidneys. 8()

But yeah, you don't need any special drinks to replace electrolytes unless you're doing vigorous activity (football, soccer, basketball, etc) for longer than an hour. No stop and go shit either--Constant movement.

Also, for the record, any beverage that contains caffeine actually dehydrates you. The water in the beverage sometimes can equal out the amount it dehydrates you. If you have something like 5-Hour Energy, you better up your water intake. But yeah, as a general rule of thumb, if it has caffeine, or alcohol, drink a glass of water equal to the liquid in the beverage.

^fully, huh? (Post was spam. :P)

i drink 2.5-3.5 litres every day at work, less at home on weekends.
i have a 700ml cup which i drink 3-4 times each day, plus a big pot of tea which i normally fill twice a day, it would be something like 500-600ml (maybe more).

even at this rate, i end up going to take a piss several times in the latter half of the day, if i were drinnking 6+litres, i'd be pissing every ten minutes.

I'm not sure, probably about 5 liters. 64 ozs doesn't seem like enough to me.

^ What's wrong with peeing every hour? I feel the benefits of being properly hydrated far outweigh the annoyance of having to go into the bathroom for a couple minutes out of every 60 minutes.

^-^ haha I thought the same thing.

This thread makes me thirsty. Maybe I should try to look at this thread throughout the day everyday so I can remind myself to drink water. :)

Daily recommendations:
Men – 3.4 L/day food & fluids; 2.6L/day (~10cups) fluids
Women – 2.8L/day food & fluids; 2.1L/day (~8 cups)

You may consume about 1 litre a day from foods you eat without realising it (fruit and veg have a high water content, and bread for example is about 50% water)... Other liquids contribute to the daily required intake, INCLUDING coffee and tea - they do dehydrate you a LITTLE bit - but not to the extent that you don't retain any of the fluid. If you are having tea, coffee, juice, fruit and veg in the day and if you had an extra "8 cups" per day, you are likely to be drinking too much water and diluting your urine to the point of putting strain on your kidneys.

You can tell by the colour of your urine if you are hydrated enough... google the urine colour chart and you can judge for yourself if you are sufficiently hydrated :)

(obviously the recommendations are varied for those who are performing strenuous sports, who sweat profusely etc etc etc)...

i may start drinking less. does feel good though. ive read that drinking a lot of water makes you look healthier, might be bollocks though. been told my skin is looking pretty good, its probably to do with having a good diet as well. apart from getting wrecked over the weekends on alcohol and drugs. i was under the impression urine is supposed to be completely clear when fully hydrated, so i keep drinking until its clear... but apparently a straw yellow color is a healthy hydration level, and i could be over hydrating myself. oops

^ I've always been told that your urine should look like you squeezed a lemon into the bowl.

Not sure exactly what color "straw yellow" is but I assume it's similar to the color of a lemon diluted by the toilet water. :P

Also, checked out that urine color chart. The first three colors don't show up. :P
