Misc How much Quercetin is safe to take at a time without causing kidney damage?

I was reading on that 1000mg or more daily can potentially damage the kidneys but I got a bottle of Now Brand Quercetin which is 400mg tablets which they tell you to take 2 capsules twice daily which I'm wondering if it may be a typo/imprint gone wrong or something cuz it used to only be 800mg a total of 2 capsules recommended daily.

Is it safe to take a high dose like 800mg at once too though?

Not sure, but I feel like i've seen quercetin sold in 1000mg per dose formulations.

I wouldn't be too worried. But many antioxidants can act as pro-oxidants at much higher doses. Personally I found quercetin to make me feel anxious. Not surprisingly since its a negative allosteric modulator of GABAA (but my GABAA system is shot).

Oh shit I asked this very question lol and my GABA system is shot too btw so I know I noticed an increase in anxiety when I first started using it but I've been using it for so long for various reasons I don't remember what it's like before I started taking quercetin daily.

Ironically I was about to make a post about my whether or not my daily low dose of benzos I've weaned down to is causing inter-dose withdrawal/rebound systems or not.

Yeah I'd definitely drop the quercetin completely if you are tapering benzos or have a fried GABA-A system from past benzo use.

Just take a gram/day of vitamin c if you want a decent enough antioxidant.

Honestly, flavonoid like quercetin are horribly non-bioavailable (quercetin has a reported bioavailability of less than 1% and a short half life).

Flavonoids tend to show some pretty impressive effects when applied to cells in a Petri dish, but once they contend with oxidative enzymes in the gut and the liver, there really isn’t much left to do anything for you aside from making expensive piss.

Well I already got a huge bottle left of it, how can I make sure it's causing me problems and that I don't need take a 3rd dose of my benzos I'm on 5mg nitrazepam in morning and 0.25mg clonazepam at night?

Oh and for the record 1 of the many reasons I use Quercetin is that it's supposedly a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor and P-Glyco Protein inhibitor thus potentially increasing absorption of medication and or supplements. But it seems any type of cyp3a4 inhibitor I've found has some type of negative side-effect that makes it so I can't use it frequently. Like for example certain antibiotics but they also will mess up the gut bacteria or w/e. I don't even like taking antibiotics for as long as Doctors recommend and I feel most times it aint necessary. BTW I'm just pointing this out as something I've noticed.

I read that Quercetin in food has a better absorption but I'm not so sure about that and I assume that any anxiety that a Quercetin supplement will cause is only for a few hours after taking a dose of it or am I wrong about that?

Also the supplement brand of Quercetin I take is mixed with Bromelain (found in pineapples) that supposedly helps increase the absorption and I take vitamin C with it which is supposed to help also. I know it can have as little as 1% can absorb but I've read it can be up to 17% also if I remember correctly and I think claims of food sources being able to be like 25-50% absorption rate and an onion which has the most from I'm aware of is like 100mg Querrcetin I think for an average onion.

Does anyone know if cooking food destroys any of the Quercetin at all? I always eat my onions fried and never raw as I don't like the "spicy" feel it has when raw but I was wondering if that matters regarding the Quercetin amount in it?
