currently take 1800mg (600mg x 3) a day of gabapentin. If I go two days without, by hrs 36-48 im feeling extremely off, having terrible panic attacks that come and go, as well as thorough insomnia and a host of other physical problems. I take a pretty intense amount of opiates and would certainly choose to withdraw from those. If anyone's never seen withdrawal from lont term use of gabapentin, it's comparable to benzo w/d.

My point is, Im low on my meds and have to see my doc for my refills but my appt isnt for another week. Ive come across access to 25mg Lyrica pills. I've heard from some that pregabalin works in many of the same misunderstood ways gabapentin does, but then it's controlled and gaba is not. Will these work the same? What's a comparable dose? Im only looking to stay out of hell for a week or so.. thx guys

Withdrawal from gabapentin or Lyrica (pregabalin) is never pretty. Pregabalin was basically designed to succeed gabapentin as a more potent pharmaceutical with much higher bioavailability. There is no clear cut evidence about how much more potent pregabalin is than gabapentin, but most people seem to report that pregabalin is about 4 times more potent. Personally I think that if you take 50-75 milligrams of pregabalin it should give you the same effect as a 600 milligram dose of gabapentin and deny you of any withdrawals.

Be careful, pregabalin has much more pronounced effects and those who switch to it usually don't return to gabapentin.

I appreciate the speedy reply bro:) Im unfortunately definitely dependent on gabapentin. I cut down from 800mg/3x day already in order to decrease my dependency and have began alternating days in which I take 2 or three 600mg tabs so I appreciate you telling me to heed hour warning of how powerful Lyrica is. Im probably going to take a 50mg dose and increase by 25mg after a few hours if by anh chance I experience any discomfort. Do the same rules apply with Lyrica? Best taken on a full stomach? And too much will put me in a state of a trip-like semi-outer body experience? Just want to make sure cuz I hate that shit as well as the feeling reported when a few grams of gabapentin are injested at once.

I really need this medication to work similarly as I take gaba for seizure disorder, and after that it helps alleviate some of my chronic pain. Im begiining to think the fact that it helps with my anxiety is simply due to just being hooked on it. my point being Lyrica has some big shoes to fill. Think it'll work out?

There is no room for interpretation in the fact that pregabalin is much more potent than gabapentin, and that if you gain any clinical benifit from gabapentin as an anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, or analgesic you will almost always earn much better benifit from pregabalin.

Pregabalin does not need to be 'staggered' or taken in divided dosages as unlike gabapentin, staggering does not affect pregabalins bioavailability which remains at a steady ~90%. Food does not affect pregabalins bioavailability either but users report faster onset on an empty stomach.

So for optimum results take pregabalin twice daily, preferably on an empty stomach when doable (such as when you wake up).
