Misc How long does it take to get addicted to GHB?

I used GHB to sleep this weekend (saturday night and last night) and managed to lose the ability to sleep tonight. This is an important week for college so I have to be in for it. I'm gonna take G to sleep tonight but the dopamine rebound anxiety would ruin the whole day for me tomorrow so I'm thinking of taking a small dose of G tomorrow so I'll be in a proper mindset for college. Problem is I'll have to do this for the rest of the week and wait until the weekend to deal with the insomnia. Is a week of continuous use long enough to get addicted?

If you've only been using it for two days and you're already having problems, you probably don't want to use it for another week. I would suggest you try to go without it for one day and see how much your sleep cycle is affected by evening (a few drinks might help in this department).

Also, the dopamine rebound will eventually wear off, whereas if you do use it for a week you are more likely to have increased anxiety that is caused by withdrawal rather than rebound. I would seriously suggest that you get some valerian supplements from the drugstore, they actually work quite well at combating the anxiety caused by discontinuing G.

Unless the rebound really turns you into a quivering anxious mess, you should stop while you're ahead.

Valerian doesn't work for me. Maybe if I take way more than the recommended dosage it will though. Alcohol will definitely work. I'm going to stop tomorrow then and use alcohol to sleep instead of the GHB. I have a job interview tomorrow so my plan is to sleep now and wake up ridiculously early (2 in the morning) then I will have 8 hours before my interview. Hopefully the dopamine rebound will have worn off by then. Then I'll just go to bed the next night and should be able to sleep. If I can't, I'll drink some alcohol. Does that sound like a decent plan? I've never tried using alcohol to sleep after a GHB binge.

EDIT: The rebound does seem to affect me pretty badly for some reason. This is my first week back at college so I need to be able to function for it. I can detox on the weekend because I don't need to be up in the mornings and hence, I can stay up all night if needs be. Does alcohol really help with this? If I'm not mistaken, alcohol works on different neurotransmitters so it shouldn't interfere with the detox. What I mean is that if you quit heroin and decide to use another opioid, you will still be addicted to opioids because both drugs work on the same receptors. If I use alcohol to help with the symptoms of quitting GHB, will I end up addicted to the alcohol instead? If not, I'll definitely use it tomorrow.

EDIT: BTW I got 50g of phenibut in the post this morning. Is there any way I can use this to stop taking GHB?

Any advice, info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I always seem to become dependent on substances at the worst possible times. GHB is a particularly bad substance for me because the dopamine rebound leaves me anxious and dysphoric for half the day and if I counteract it by taking more GHB, then I just increase my physical dependence on the substance.

You won't end up addicted to the alcohol, since it acts on the GABAa receptors, and GHB effects the GABAb/GHB receptor, so there won't be any significant overlap. Also, you will not get addicted to alcohol over such a short period of time.

If the dopamine rebound really is that bad for you, then your plan for getting some GHB free sleep sounds good. You sure as hell don't want to be anxious during a job interview, so it probably would be best to just ride out the rebound with some alcohol. Also, one thing I found that helped was to make several strong pots of chamomile tea, it definitely kept me more even keel. And even if it doesn't do to much for you, it'll at least keep you hydrated from al the alcohol :)

I would suggest not taking the phenibut. While it will put you to sleep, and decrease your rebound symptoms and anxiety, it has a fairly long duration (half life of 5 hours) and a steep dose-response curve. Also, it acts specifically on the GABAb recptors, just like GHB, so using if you use phenibut then the "opiates to replace heroin" analogy would apply. Also, tolerance to phenibut builds fairly quickly, and daily dosing will lead to dependence very quickly. Phenibut withdrawal can be very debilitating, since given its long half-life its basically an extended variant of GHB withdrawal. I've seen reports of people who ended up addicted to phenibut while trying to kick G, so it's probably not worth the risk.

Also, I can sympathize with becoming dependent on stuff at really bad times, and then having to do something like this. Hope it works out!

I went to sleep without GHB last night and slept for 15 hours. Thats a record for me. I can verify the theory that too much sleep makes you drowsy the next day because I feel like going back to bed lol.
