TL;DR: How long after stopping an anti-psychotic like Zyprexa would psychedelics work?

Before I got put on the meds I used to take psychedelics like once a month or so to medicate my depression and anxiety, but I tried another route and went to a doctor and asked for treatment and got put on Prozac and Zyprexa (olanzapine), it worked alright for about 2 years, they had a ton of side effects but I put up with it because they worked.

Anyway they stopped working about last year and the soul crushing depression and crippling anxiety is back. I just couldn't handle it any more and tried to take some stuff to try and alleviate the depression but nothing worked.

Acid: I felt weird in the head and I got some closed eye visuals and weird dreams when I slept but 0 depression relief and no mood improvements. didn’t work.

Mushrooms: Almost the same as acid, didn't trip.

Ecstasy: I got very sweaty and anxious and my heart was beating fast, and I didn't roll.

Alcohol: whenever I get drunk enough to feel anything I fall asleep.

Opiates: I was prescribed some for an injury I had. I tried codeine and Percocet. There was some analgesia and sedation, but the feeling I would normally get was like 90% blunted.

After doing some research I found out that Zyprexa and all anti-psychotics block or blunt most drugs especially psychedelics
So I decided to stop the meds since they are not doing their job and they are still giving me side effects. And decided to go back to using Psychedelics again.
I asked my doctor to stop them and he told me to reduce the dosage of Zyprexa from 15mg to 10mg then to 5mg for a month and to stop whenever I feel comfortable, so i stopped the Zyprexa 6 days ago and things are ok so far. I am however keeping the prozac since it doesn’t block psychedelics.

Psychedelics sure do interact with meds and I don’t want to do some harm,
So in the name of harm reduction how long should I wait before trying to take some psychedelics again?

maybe end of next week, what dosage acid or shrooms were you thinking of trying?
oral Zyprexa and the short-acting injection stay in your system for around 6 days.

Thanks for the reply pupnik, I’m curious why at the end of next week? Do you have experience with Zyprexa?

I have an ounce of golden teachers and 2 tabs of (220µg) bicycle acid left, I was thinking to start with 5g of mushrooms, you think that’s a good dose?

Before I was put on the meds I would take between 3-5g of mushrooms or 150-250µg of acid and it worked like a charm.
But after I got put on the meds I tried many times with mushrooms up to 10g and once with acid 220µg the bicycle tabs with no luck.

if it's out of your system in 6 days, then you get a few days to acclimate to your new baseline.
you should be tripping like a virgin so 5gms is plenty, and 150ug also separately plenty to help rediscover the augmented state.

I think if you are planning balls to the walls experiencing you are discounting the time you have spent on psych meds.

I also think you don't want to go back to needing psych meds, so be kind to your brain and follow a benevolent path.

Wikipedia says that 5HT2AR comes back to baseline after 2 weeks on average after downregulation from agonism/antagonism. However, while SSRI’s don’t actively block psychedelics they do still reduce their efficacy by also causing 5HT2AR downregulation. I used to take olanzapine occasionally to sleep and so found that it would take around 5 days before psychedelic worked at 100% efficacy.
Given all that, I would say if your 5HT2A system does upregulate at all even in the presence of SSRI’s, it would take about 2.5-3 weeks after your last dose of Zyprexa to return to as close to your baseline as you can get.

The SSRI at a low dose with Shrooms or LSD, could in theory speed up his 5HT2A recovery since It would allow the receptors to get used to 5HT2A agonism. Flush Antagonism Is a thing It one of the issues with a Severe ADHD brain, I can't enjoy Dopamine drugs without my Concerta because It feels Like my brain flushing away any dopamine to mild antipsychotic levels. I've done 450mg DXM with 54mg Concerta I've never had any issues.

I still view Antipsychotics can cause late onset ADHD.
