It seems like doctors and facilities are afraid to prescribe narcotics. My dad, a dying vietnam vet in a lot of pain, can't get either klonopin or lortabs anymore. Since his VA doctor cut him off he managed to get a few scripts for lortabs from a doctor who told him to go to a pain clinic. At the pain clinic he said the doctor barely listened to him and flat out refused to prescribe him any opiate.
I've managed to get at least one dose of a benzo at the ER for my panic attacks from time to time, usually ativan, but waiting in the ER for relief from a panic attack is ridiculous. Every mental health facility I've been to either refused to prescribe me a benzo or had one on call but only gave me hydroxyzine because I apparently wasn't "freaking out" hard enough.
What blew my mind is recently I was recently refused gabapentin in a facility to get my anti-depressants lined out because I don't currently have a doctor and I was almost out. According to my NP the facility I was in had recently began refusing gabapentin because, as my NP said, it has a street value and the government is, apparently, considering on making it a controlled substance.
I'm sorry but being afraid of gabapentin is ridiculous. I can understand benzos and opiates but not gabapentin.
I've heard a family doctor is the way to go, and I've been asking around about doctors who aren't afraid of benzo scripts. I was even told to go to the suboxone clinic even though I am in no way addicted to opiates. I was told they prescribe klonopin with no hesitation but once you get a benzo script from them no other doctor will give you one.
I hate how people take benzos to get "high" there is no high. If relief from anxiety is a high sure, but people banging 5 bars just to numb their mind, lose their reasoning and coordination, and pass out makes absolutely no sense to me. I don't understand why I haven't been able to get a script after almost 10 years of struggling with anxiety while I always hear that narcotic prescriptions have soared.
