People often refer to a consciousness shift as if it is a singular event like the big bang which is going to happen at some point in the future (conveniently often during our lifetime,) which will right most of if not all of the worlds wrongs (wishful thinking in my opinion.)

Perhaps consciousness shifts are not events, per se, but the underlying mechanisms of the universe - they occur in every moment, all the time. Your consciousness is in constant shift. Consciousness shifts build our perceptions, ideas, entire civilizations. In essence, we needn't wait or look for evidence of a consciousness shift; it is, has been, and forever will be occurring right now.

I guess i'm trying to re-imagine the concept of a consciousness shift as "consciousness shifting" - a journey rather than a destination.

How do you understand consciousness shifts?

My consciousness usually shifts when I wake up from a night of sleep.

What you're describing is the temporary changes in mind and mood over the course of any given period. A consciousness shift or awakening is usually permanent, if it's genuine. You may still experience various shifts but it will be at a different general equilibrium of consciousness.

I know, and that is why I made my irreverent comment: "Consciousness shift" is an entirely subjective term. Some people have consciousness shifts wherein they sense the presence of Jesus Christ, escape severe drug addictions, and found mental health clinics for the homeless. Others have awakenings where they meet the Spirit of Ayahuasca, begin a journey of self-discovery and find peace and happiness within, sharing their joy with others in their own way.

If you feel as if you are undergoing a consciousness shift, then maybe you are. That's about all that can be said about consciousness shifts.
