How concerned should I be with memory issues on 15 years of klonopin?

Doctor claims my memory are just because I'm in a medicine change. I don't buy it. I think I've screwed up my memory with klonopin. I'm 35

I can vouch for this. Being 41. I tapered about one year ago. Everyone is different. I do know this: doctors push meds; we, as the patients, must listen to our bodies, edicute and be our own advocates.

I'm still on sleep meds, but just that and my antidepressant, and I've been doing well for three years. No cutting, no ER visits. Memory is so much better. I don't feel like a walking zombie. Benzos, Night meds, and all psychotropic medications aren't meant for long-term use. It's for a season, be it five or two years. Never longer.

This endless revolving door of petroleum-based meds is just for the birds. All of it. I'm looking at getting to the root of the sleep, anxiety, and depression. A lot of it is from diet. I do work out; I do lift moderate weights like deadlifts, free weights, machines, etc. While my diet does have protein, it needs more color. Also, autism.

I'm sick of the symptom being prescribed away for something else, be it a drug or issue. At the end of the day, all of those meds are a band-aid for a larger issue.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but yes, you're making the right call. Get educated, write down what you do remember, and keep a daily journal. A paper trail.

Also, look up studies on long-term use of benzos, even the third-generation 'better' ones with fewer side effects. All of them are for short-term use. Print it out, bring it to them, and politely let them know you're tapering so legally they're aware, and get a printout to ask for that notation in your visit. That's what the directions say, under a doctor's supervision. So your ass is covered.
