Hospital blood test and illegal drugs

so last night i checked my self into the ER because i had extremely bad nerve pain in my leg to the point that i couldn't walk...

the doctor took blood to do the common blood tests to check everything.

my question is... when they run the blood test are they just looking to make sure all my levels of whatever are correct, or do they at the same time also check for drugs in the system?

Your fine, they are not gonna check for drugs unless you give them a reason to. Even if they did it wouldn't matter, unless you have an actual pain management doctor providing long term opiate therapy

I was just curious, but I didn't think they did. I wasn't given a narcotic pain killer when I left and a friend said that maybe it was because they found trace drugs in my blood

You have to give them consent to test your blood for drugs.

They will just be running generic blood tests such as a full blood count, U&Es, etc

They almost certainly arent checking for drugs, they would probably want a urine sample for that.
