Homemade Marquis

Hello everyone!

I apologize in advance in case this thread is either in the wrong subforum or synth talk.

Since i'm generally interested in chemistry and don't want to spend a fortune on a test kit, I thought about alternative ways to get a marquis-reagent.
One problem was that i couldn't easily obtain formaldehyde. so I went and bought some Esbit (dry fuel for cooking canned food while camping or whatever) which consists of Urotropine and some fillers/binders.
I thought about crushing them, then treating with conc sulfuric acid to force the urotropine + H2O <----> NH4 + HCHO reaction to the right. in my theory, If I filter the stuff i should obtain a mixture of sulfuric acid, ammoniumsulfate and formaldehyde, which in turn (with the exception of the ammonium ions) IS the marquis-reagent if i'm not mistaken.

I hope someone can shed some light on the whole process...

I couldn't say for sure, but to be honest I don't think this would work. Do you have access to paraformaldehyde?

The chemistry is good but make sure the relative concentrations of formaldehyde and H2SO4 are correct. Also I'm not too sure what the ammonium ions could do, but that might be one reason this might not work.

well I did the decomposition of the Urotropine (got A LOT of gelatinous goo [that i suspect of being polyformaldehyde] that instantly clogged lab filters, coffee filters and finally cotton wool) but eventually most of the solution made it through.. definitely smells like formaldehyde, and i tested something sold to me as 'definitely MDMA crystals' and got a rapid reaction of purple --> brown --> greenish brown
now i'm quite unsure of what to make of that.. i suspect the ratio of FA / SA is off (i'm goint to buy a quick test from a local headshop - sorry transform, can't really wait for shipping right now) but i'm not in possession of pure drugs to cross confirm, neither is my trust in the alleged MDMA so high that i would dump my obtained crude extract over that. although.. come to think of it, i've got an unknown amount (25-50mg) of 2c-e and some butylone somewhere.
maybe distillation is an option, i hope the formaldehyde will make it over without too many other things..
also i suspect there is no real way of saying what fraction of distillate to keep when i distill from an aqueous solution with ammoniumsulfate, sulfuric acid and god knows what else..

ok, so I bought some Acetylsalicylic acid and tested my test reagent
after about 30 seconds i got a beatiful bright red product, so I assume my reagent is indeed working.
but just to be one the safe side, i did a little work and obtained some 30% formaline, with which i made some more marquis, trying to get the ratio just perfectly. also did the whole ASS-test to confirm, and got the same red product.

after that i retested my mdma-powder (with the new formaline-marquis) and got: Dark brown --> brownish green in about 5 seconds..

I think with that i can at least confirm that i do NOT have MDMA powder, but something completely else... well that sure pissed me off..
but on the other hand, it's a better way to find out i've got bunk material than say after dropping 120mg of the stuff and living through whatever nightmare this stuff has in hold for me..
gonna flush it, maybe at least the toilet will geht high off of it.

Yeah, that's what i've been preaching in my circle for the past 8 years...
sadly that didn't always reach hearing ears (no fatalities, but people bombing 1000mg[yeah...] of methylone of a new batch without thinking about maybe doing a 10mg test to see they did indeed receive the right stuff)
that gradually changed though when a friend of mine received some mislabeled MDPV and "accidently" took 180mgs of that each with some friends... guess there's no bigger wakeup call than your feet going blue and generally feeling like dying

but well, i only recently picked up the "skills and knowledge" to perform harm reduction on the level mentioned above..

Not sure where you are, but I just ordered from LINKREMOVED and their kits are cheaper than everywhere else and they're actually really cool and easier to use because they use removable droppers instead of those one piece bottles that make it difficult to get just one drop out. Try it out - they're not a fortune they're like REMOVED - cheaper than making it yourself I'm sure!
Only thing is they're Canadian - looks like they only ship to canada

Generally we are much more lenient of links to sites which purely sell harm reduction equipment. Scales are another example.

I find it interesting that this person "just ordered" from a very new site and then registered on bluelight to make a post about it though, so I've removed it as likely spam.

Brown to green is indicative of 2C-C, 25I-NBOMe, potentially 2-CB

The initial purple indicates a possible MDXX mixed with a 2C or 2C derivative
