Harm Reduction Holy crap. I didn't realize HR sites give so much away.

I went to a safe injection site today to check it out and they handed me a box of 100 rigs, handful of micron filters, handful of cookers and a whole bunch of sterile water packs. I've always reused my rigs because it can take me so long to hit, id be spending all my money on them. I know it's not good, but it just seems like such a waste considering they still work so well and I'm the only one using them.

With this now though...I can't believe they can do all that.

Yes, I guess they figure that it can be alot cheaper to give out these inexpensive things. It is probably cheaper to give clean supplies to 500 people than it is to treat even one person with HIV or to do a liver transplant for a case of Hep C. Not onl is it the smart thing to do, it's the right thing to do IMO.

Back when I was at my worst and never had money to buy them from the pharmacy, it was not unusual for me to use the same rig 70-80 times. Sometimes they were so dull that I had to clench my teeth and grab something to avoid yelling out in pain when I jammed the needle in. I'd have to force it to go through but by bit and it hurt like hell of course.

Are you kidding me..? I don't even know how that's psychically possible. That is absolutely insane.

There are no needle exchanges around you that give them out for free... I mean, go pan handle for 5 minutes and get a few bucks for a 10 pack of rigs... reusing them like that is nuts. I'm surprised you have any veins left at all.

This was quite some time ago. As I mentioned in my OP I got a box of 100 today free. I recently still reuse but nowhere near as bad. I would just wash it out after and use it as long as it was not too dull and the barrel moved through easily. This still might end up being 10 times max. Sometimes I actually PREFER a used one for a faithful vein because its quite easy for a new one to slip out slightly causing a partial miss. This sometimes leads to a subsequent worse miss and so on until I either fuck the whole vein up too badly to use or else will not register or too slow a flow to use it. I know it's not good and a much better habit to use clean ones every time, but luckily I've had no issues with infections or abcess despite very frequent misses.

Unless I have a faithful vein at the time (I have one now) it can take me many many attempts to register, let alone hit. If I used a different rig for each attempt, Id have a mountain of used ones surrounding me. What I'm trying to say is I'm used to it, and never let them get really dull so it still works fine without scarring.
