ScienceDaily (Mar. 12, 2010) — The usual excuse of "lack of time" for not doing enough exercise is blown away by new research published in The Journal of Physiology.

The study, from scientists at Canada's McMaster University, adds to the growing evidence for the benefits of short term high-intensity interval training (HIT) as a time-efficient but safe alternative to traditional types of moderate long term exercise. Astonishingly, it is possible to get more by doing less!

Anyone out there do High Intensity Interval training or tried it in the past, maybe you could post the results & benefits you've had or not had from this type of training regime or just anything Interval Training esk. I saw a program recently that showed some people were none responders in some measures of fitness to this type of exercise while others had big improvements in many areas dependent on their genes.

I've heard of this through Josh Waitzkin's autobiography, but have never tried it myself. It seems to be very effective, coming from his reccomendation.

It's basically all I do for cardiovascular type work. I lost 20/21 pounds doing a variation of it. I'm going long distance running with a friend soon, and I'd like to see how well it has prepared me for this.

I do it because I'm too fucking lazy to be bothered to go outside for more than 20 minutes, and long distance running generally eats up a whole day.

Ive done hiit before. Havent done it for an extended period of time to track my results but its apparently superior fat burning cardio routine as opposed to the old 'fat burning' method where you go a steady pace for 1 hour or whatever.

I dont know the comparison for steady cardio in THR vs HIIT in regards to calories or how much time doing one would compare to how much time doing the other but from what i can say its a really good way to burn fat, improve that 'explosive' movement. Dont know much about endurance though it probably lacks there a bit becuase the sprint/jog or sprint/walk really burns you out quick and isnt something you can do for an hour straight (well maybe you can if you got alotta endurance)

I just started Crossfit and got an accurate baseline reading/time down via my trainer.
I'll post my before/after in a month or two. I really like it so far

:D

I'll try to remember my experience with High Intensity Lactic Acid Threshold Training. I was intrigued with the fact you could train your kidneys to handle more metabolic waste.
I would do 20-30 minute sessions 3 times a day.
I did this for 2 or 3 months, I imagine about 3-5 days a week.
My Bike had a hand operated tension control, and I would "max" for 1-5 minutes with rest intervals lasting 1-3 minutes. Thats avg. 4-5 "maxes" per session.
My rest intervals became shorter as I reached a trained state.
As my sessions declined per week, I noticed my performance ie. endurance went down too.

That was during a Jail bid in 05' at County Jail in a "Country Club" type atmosphere. The atmosphere was great mang. Everyone else had big guns that looked like a 40oz bottle and had mad swag, so to provide contrast I re-did my kidneys.

I'm on my first Month of physical fitness, and everyone knows that the first Month is the mostexciting because you will make the most gains in your career due to the bodies adapting to the new stress.
Next Month I will be doing HIIT on a Stationary Bike at the YMCA. I cant wait. It produces So SO much results.
Protip: HIIT is hard, and if you do it right, you will come close to and/or shitting pants and passing out. Also when first starting out, introducing HIIT into your work out regime, dont do it before work, school, driving etc. It drains your glycogen stores and you will feel like you are in a psychosis.
