Benzos Hiccups when taking Xanax?

I dont have a huge tolerance to benzos, usually anywhere between 1-3mgs of Xanax, only taken occasionally. For some reason, every single time i take Xanax, i get hiccups that last quite a while. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or if its just me?
 
I used to get hiccups from valium consistently back in the day. Every so often I would catch these from Xanax later on.
I think it may have something to do with your diaphragm or something in your throat being too relaxed or something I've heard.
 
Thanks T. Calderone. I was just curious because i have alot of experience with opiates, was on them for years, everything from Hydros to Opanas, to H. Currently on Suboxone and never got hiccups EVER while on opiates, only on benzos
 
Hiccuping is a known side effect of benzodiazepines in general. Some people are more susceptible to the hiccup effects than others. The effect is often seen in overdose situations. You should consider using a lower dose or maybe just avoid benzos altogether. They can be quite nasty.
 
Ok thanks for the info. I just dont think it would be because of an overdose situation because i took only 1mg tonight and got them.

Yup, this is true.
Happens with the faster onset benzos (alprazolam, diazepam etc).
 
I too get the hiccups often, but mainly with Clonazepam (Klonopin). Although it has happened a few times with Xanax.
 
For me hiccups are a sign of respiratory depression. I always get them past a certain benzo/opiate threshold.
 
its fairly common to get hiccups while taking benzos/opiates, i get it often everytime i inhale a cigarette, same with my girl, its common
