Hi to everyone,

I gave up smoking cigarettes 5 months ago but promised myself the odd smoke of weed every now and again as I lurrve it so much, better than alcohol or anything!
Anyways so I have tried smoking it through a pipe, in a spliff on its own, in a spliff with tea grains and I just don't get the same high I get with tobacco!

I'm too scared to dabble with tobacco again in case it gets me back on the evil brown weed...anyone notice this or is it in my head?

Anyone got any tips to get really high off weed on its own? :!

Nope, just different. A lot of people prefer the effects of cannabis without tobacco. I guess you miss the initial head rush that subsides to being high. Unfortunately, that's the effect of tobacco, which you can only experience if you smoke tobacco. As for getting extra-high, smoke more or get better dope. Welcome to BL by the way.

I know exactly where you're coming from. You need to accept the fact that its a different high. Some days it feels better, some days you'll crave the 'old' high.

Occasionally, a few drinks before toking might give you a high reminiscent of the tobacco/pot high.

When you're switching from tobacco + weed to just weed, I'm thinking the best option might be to change how you smoke to accompany it, so it tasting different/harshness isn't as much of a deal. I cant smoke all weed out of a bong or a joint, the thought disgusts me. So i usually go the gravity bong when I can't get tobacco, just helps me not having to be sucking on the taste of the weed that much.

Not that i dislike the taste of weed, but i find it very unusual compared to my normal flavour of weed + tobacco....

Hey Yerg, thanks :D

you got it in one there, it is the head rush. I never really realised (before giving up smoking and posting on here) that was due to the tobacco. Obviously I knew there was a head rush as I got it with cigarettes in the morning after a long abstinence (ewww! part of the reason I wondered wat the f*ck am I doing this for??) but I guess with the weed it kind of goes hand in hand with the stoned feeling.

just had another though too, maybe it's too early days to seperate the two?
I kind of feel wierd even being with a joint in my hand when I've not had a normal cig for 5 months. It's like I'm breaking a taboo or somethin!

ahh what your experiencing there is the subtle yet powerful addiction to nicotine.
tobacco is savagely addictive, and as with all addictions, you'll find yourself justifying your usage. In this case it's manifested itself as a "different high". it aint. it's just association.
I gave up smoking tobacco "except" in joints a good many years ago.
it's lke being a vegetarian and eating fish.
Or duck. Well, they're nearly fish eh?
spend most of their time in the water.

Anyway it didn't work for me.
Or anyone else i know.
Just ended up smoking joints more for the tobacco fix than anything else. Though it took me a long time to accept it.
I was adamant that it didn't give me the same high.
it's bollocks.
stick to the green weed if you can, leave the brown leaf behind.
you won't regret it.

It's the same high, but with the tobacco effect to start her off.

All you're missing is the head-rush effect and I guarantee it's the same high after a few minutes.

I'd say large 1 hit bong hits are your best bet to try and replicate the lack-of-oxygen-to-the-brain effect, but you're right in thinking it still doesn't feel the same- tobacco is far more addictive than marijuana so your body craves the nicotine more than anything else.

Try different ways of smoking...
Blunts are good if you're a cigarette smoker.
Great for bigger groups too

tobacco is savagely addictive

At one point, I really believed that whole heartedly. Since quitting tobacco because I decided I really didn't want to anymore, turns out its actually pretty easy. I smoked for about 7 years, probably going between 1-2 packs a day (but rolling).

I'm thinking the overall addictiveness of tobacco is probably a combination of its mild addictiveness and the fact that it is considered a social norm, completely acceptable in terms of law at least. Kind of like being addicted to alcohol.

And before anyone jumps in to massively dispute this, after I quit smoking about 10 of my friends also quit smoking for health reasons, and none of us had any problems with it. I'm not saying nicotine isn't addictive, but I don't think its as savagely addictive as so many people want to make it out to be. Most people just really don't want to quit, someone else told them they should though.

^ sorry, I have to jump in and massively dispute this. Nicotine IS savagely addictive - psychologically and physically. If you don't believe that, perhaps there's a business opportunity for ya - millions and millions of people out there hooked on tobacco trying to quit could flock to your door for the answer!

Years ago, I found it easy enough to stop smoking cigarettes in the normal fashion as did many of my friends too. We still mixed tobacco with pot though - and bonged on daily for many, many years. 25 years on, and the addiction to nicotine is still what drives most (if not all) of these friends to continue to smoke pot - i'm hard pushed to get them to admit it tho. just the suggestion of smoking bongs without tobacco (or vaporizing god forbid) brings looks of disdain and disbelief.

Oh, and there's a shitload of people out there addicted to alcohol too. I lived with one for two years - and this was addiction no doubt about it.

The worst thing about the nicotine addiction is its subtlety...

I have a preference for putting tobacco in my weed, but it has nothing to do with taste and everything to do with burn. Often it depends on the weed I have at the time, some of it is better with tobacco, other times its better without it. Unless its a joint, because green joints are horrible as far as I'm concerned.

As for people flocking to my door, unlikely. All I'm going to tell them is that they actually have to want to quit. Deep down. For themselves. If that isn't there, then whatever.

Feeling like you need it and actually needing it are completely different. Once you make that separation then you can decide if you actually WANT it. After that quitting really isn't that hard. People who can't quit never make that separation. They might talk up a big game because they've heard the spiel or know they should, but they never actually think it through for themselves.

Of course certain people have a proclivity towards being addicted to stuff. I call this weak will. Say I'm wrong if you want, but what else is it?

EDIT: I should also add that I had withdrawals for 3 days when i quit smoking. 3 days really isn't very long. After that you're over the hump, and it gets easier. It's not easy, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely easier.

To put this into perspective, I suffer withdrawals and an inability to sleep and no appetite for about 2 days if i stop smoking weed completely. I do this to myself often. I don't consider the physical withdrawals from tobacco to be any worse than what I have with weed, in fact I probably feel worse when I quit weed because I really want to smoke and I know its not damaging me that badly.

Just smoke your hash/buds out of a bong, pipe, or J without mixing tobacco in.

Or if you have a chunk of hash break it in a small piece and put it on the end of a thumbtack, light it up, and catch the smoke from the lit hash in a glass that you put over the burning hash and suck it up with a straw.

I've heard hot knives work well but I have never used these to smoke with.

thank you there expothead.
There's no excuse for chatting balls, especially on a harm reduction site.
Yes, subjectively some people may find tobacco easy to quit. There's a multitude of factors involved.
But to blatantly ignore the massively hugely extensively researched scientific study, and physiological/psychological evidence.....
well.
it warrants a massive dispute

you could possibly just blunt wraps to roll....

they are made of tobacco so your still getting a bit of that nicotine...

I would be talking out of my ass if i claimed it had anything to do with it, but tobacco acts as a mild MAOI, MAOIs can change the ways a lot of substances work in the body. Whether or not its powerful enough to affect cannabis, or if it affects cannabis at all i really am not sure....

I've been smoking for 2 years, and even 2 months in, I wanted to quit but made it like 2-3 days. All you feel is that craving, you can't think straight or do anything without thinking about smoking. Ever since my psychiatrist put me on Wellbutrin/Zyban, I can go weeks without a cigarette. I just smoke when I am doing drugs, not because I crave it, but I like the synergy it creates with other drugs. I got myself from smoking 2 packs a day to 1 cigarette a day.
