Hey Everyone....Need your advice on weight loss problem

Hi guys...I haven't been here for awhile....missed you GeneticFreak:) I have a question regarding weight loss...

I have been eating very....very low carb. My goal is to lose weight, not to look emaciated or "skinny fat".....the problem is, I have not cheated at all. From past experience, I should've lost anywhere from 5-7lbs this mos..I lost one damn pound this month. What the hell is going on?

I put on a lot of weight in the past 7mos....from eating lots of white bread, pasta, rice, etc...you get the picture. I have completely cut out all of those things...I eat eggs, ground chicken, chicken breast, lots of fresh baby spinach. I can't understand why it's not kicking my metabolism up...

What am I doing wrong? :! Ps...Genetic Freak...ex-husband went back on test etc...he is no longer depressed. He's back to being the, uh, not real cool person I've always known. I don't know if you remember me.

If you are truly in a caloric deficit you are loosing fat. Period! One explanation might be:http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html/
So if what is in the article sounds familiar just stick with it.

Just keep in mind that low carb does not equate fatloss. It just means you are cutting out one macronutrient in order to cut calories and help with cravings (which high simple carb intake induce)
That being said too low carbs are not optimal either. Carbs will help with gym performance and carbs are the best macronutrient for increasing metabolism through Leptin among other things. It wil help regulate hunger and caloric expenditure.
That's why al competition bodybuilders do highcarbs refeeds regularly to keep their metabolism from dropping (Which always happens in a prolonged deficit, no stopping this) A refeed however is not the same as a cheat day. You still track calories and usually eat at or slightly above maintenance. Protein remains the same. Fat drops lower (usually sub 50grams) and all other calories come from carbs (both simple sugars and complex carbs)

The best advice i can give you is tracking your calories and making sure you really are in a deficit. If you eat ''clean' and healthy'' but are still above maintenance you will gain fat just as easy.

Hey heerutosen...I am not a bodybuilder. I was married to one at one time...and have a daughter w him. I was exsposed to alot of what you are saying. I have to tell you guys though, you have to break down what you are saying in terms I can understand...I'm simply a woman, who is trying to lose weight, the right way.

The end result I am seeking is not to look emaciated and unhealthy, but fit and slim. Probably not in the same way you guys are. I am always amazed at the results of bodybuilding...

I truly am lost guys. Truly. I can actually smell marshmallows through the bag when I am food shopping lol...it's the weirdest thing.

Even though it doesn't seem I am losing weight, my husband tells me he can see it in my face and shoulders...anyway, I refuse to just start eating bullshit like sweets and bread etc....I don't think that's the answer either. It's like going and doing some heroin because what's the difference? Nothing is changing...I am soldiering on. Taking all advice given...you guys obviously know what you're talking about.

I am on month two now. I'm not going through extreme hunger. I have craved sweets, but also, my family is eating them in front of me...eating sandwhichs on the rolls I bought from the bakery. I don't feel my family should have to not eat things, just because I'm not...so, that's not easy at times. Thankyou for the link heerutosen...I am going to read it now...Thanks always to everyone for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it. S

You can still eat some sweets when trying to loose weight. Just be sure to get most of your calories from nutrientdense foods. 80% healthy 20% snacks is fine.

Look into IIFYM (lot of info just google it) for learning how to track macro's. For now i would advise you to start counting calories and weighing your foods.
You can get a pretty good estimate of your nutritional (kcal + macro's) needs from this calculator: http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/
Use the Mifflin St Jeor version and choose 15% as your deficit.

The calculator also shows your TDEE (maintenance) which i advise you to eat atleast one day a week, but 2 or 3 days is fine too.
For instance: 5 days in a caloric deficit and 2 days in the weekend at maintenance to keep your metabolism from dropping and it will give you more room for foods you like to eat (Not a cheat day, so you still have to count calories)

The most important thing is consistency. Loosing about 0.5% of your bodyweight each week is a good healthy pace.
Maybe 1% in the beginning

Good luck!

heerutosen....I like that you put things in perspective on a "free" day....it doesn't mean eat like a maniac. It means exactly what you said, eat "maintainence"...as I am eating in "induction" everyday....I did have a mutiny...meaning losing my shit, and getting really pissed off about all of this...I ate some oatmeal and I don't mean the clean kind. I ate strawberries and cream, and whatever other kinds were in there...I mixed 4 envelopes together Another time, I ate some white chocolate kit kats...then a piece of a roll w butter. I felt no better after I ate that I didn't even enjoy them. And exactly who was I getting back at doing that???

Thankyou for the links...I will read them I read the one you sent me that the college professor wrote about fat cells containing water...thankyou. I am being consistent...I will NEVER again allow this to happen to me again, once I finally get this weight off.. When I ate all of those carbs that made me gain this weight...I thought I will go back to Atkins and knock this off...and I indeed did.. I made up mind, and on that day, no sugar and no carbs from grains. Except for the 3 mutiny's I had. I have stuck to it.

Thanks for taking the time to post me heerutosen. :)

A word about Ketostix, and what color they should be to indicate if you are in Ketosis (the state you want to be in if you're NOT diabetic), the more pink or purple the color the more your're spilling ketones and your body is burning fat. So that being said...mine was beige. After having my daughter and husband pee on one and coming out the same color...I knew something was very wrong. They both eat sugar, sweets, white grains....

So, I had a novel idea of googling it. So yeah. Now I'm even more determined to figure this all out. So, I'm dropping carb level to lower....and writing every single solitary thing down that I ingest. I am measuring every single thing...if that doesn't work I will have a dr run a blood test...this is to the point of crazy. When and if I figure out what I'm doing wrong or what is going on, I'll be sure post it. So someone else can learn what NOT to do. Dammit.

You do not have to be in ketosis to burn fat and loose weight. The extra weight lost is al water anyway.
It's very good you are measuring everything now, but you only have to watch your overall caloric intake. No need to stress about ketosis or a few carbs.

So count calories for 2 weeks and if you are not loosing weight drop overal intake by 5% untill you do. Good luck!

I figured out what I was doing wrong....AND got some books about the subject. Will keep you posted. This is a frustrating process...I think I'll be ok now. For the love of all that's holy I hope so.

Seems like my advice contradicts a lot of solid advice you are getting here but here goes. You use the Keto strips because you WANT TO BE IN KETOSIS! Remember you are on a low carb diet. When your body can't find those carbs, it'll break down the fats and hence you'll see ketones. The darker the strips, the better. If they aren't dark, your carb intake is still too high. Period.
This advice is only for doing a true low carb diet. Everyone's advise for you is great and better long term but I assume you are kick starting your diet by losing some weight this way first - and that is fine too.

Good luck!
