Heroin heroin vs. morphine

Why is it that heroin feels so much different from than just straigt morphine if they are both essentially morphine? Like I understand that It's Diacetolmorphine and so it almost acts as propellar's to cross the BBB much faster but why doesn't it quite feel the same feels more like oxy and I snort if that has an impact on it
 
Heroin is a faster acting form of morphine. It's been beaten to death, how the acetylation and consequential lipid solubility facilitate the faster crossing of the BBB, but in the end the drugs have the same effects. The main differences are 1) the rush (especially IV) and 2) the intensity of the effects.

Most people (including myself) prefer heroin for the aforementioned reasons. It's also important to realize that insufflated morphine has rather poor BA. If you were to take equipotent doses of both drugs IV (aside from the different rush), you may have a hard time telling which is which.

Also, I don't think heroin feels like oxy. Oxy is stimulating and heroin is so sedating. Just my opinion.
 
I was going to reply about heroin crossing the BBB quicker which affects the rush, before I saw yb62338 had given the perfect answer...

I think I'm in a minority in that I prefer morphine, though.

Haha propellers. Is that NT's analogy :)

Anyways there is no real answer to this question other than onset of symptoms. People claim vodka drunk is different from wine drunk is different from beer drunk when it is all ethanol so chalk it up to subjective effects and move on.

Also if you are snorting your morphine (poor BA) then diamorphine will definitely feel more like oxy in that they both are much more lipophilic and can better cross the nasal membrane.

I think this is answered so I'm going to close it. Feel free to PM me OP or anyone else if you think there is important harm reduction or general concept information that needs to be added.
