Hi guys I started my withdrawal on thursday morning and so far so good, quite a bit of muscular pain and the usual other symptoms but nothing dramatic. my question really is when the aches have been getting bad i would pop a couple of 30/500 cocodamols, would this have a big impact on my withdrawal procedure? as i woke up this morning i felt a bit weak but not all that bad, surely the codeine hasnt managed to stop my cluck? your views would be extremely appreciated! :)

Codeine will be detrimental to recovering, I recommend sticking with naproxen or aspirin for the pains..

your going to want to grin and bear it. there is a certain merit to quitting cold turkey, alotta users on this website associate cold turkey with a slew of herbal and otc remedies which is the antithesis of the word itself. cold turkey is cold turkey, no drugs, nothing. I was over my withdrawals in 2 weeks following my cold turkey withdraw it was not anything i couldnt handle although i do not wish to repeat it.

There is no pride in unnecessary suffering. Heroin WDs vary greatly depending on how much you use and if you don't seriously want to kill yourself to end the pain than you are lucky and didn't have a big habit. Codeine is hardly going to set you back and will help ease the misery, I say go for it and definitely get some benzos and whatever else might help. Just be careful with the benzos so as not to start a new habit, stay away from xanax and go for klonopin, ativan, or vallium instead. Gabapentin or lyrica are also good options.

nice one, i travelled out to france to do my wd i wasnt a huge user maybe £40 a day but its still enough it feels like ive gone through my wd but it seems like it was far too easy i tried to come off a few months ago and it was absolute misery and i gave in but this time theres been a couple of days of crap and now im just feeling a bit achey like ive got a touch of man flu who knows but thanks for your advice :)

i've withdrawaled completely cold turkey one time. let's just say, no matter what my circumstances are, it is not going to happen ever again.

I'm glad somebody said it, because when I read that I honestly couldn't believe anybody who has supposedly been through opiate withdrawals would have the nerve to say that. But anyway like OxyMorphone said there are many variables to how bad your WD would be, but benzos are the best bet to get through them, at least if you don't have access to Subs that is.

I've never been thru opiate withdrawals... but I've been thru both alcohol and benzo withdrawals at different times. For me, going thru the hell was an important part of the process of getting clean. I value and appreciate my sobriety more than I would if I stopped with ease. It's something I don't ever wanna go thru again and that is a huge incentive to stay clean. Sure, it would be so much simpler if drugs didn't get you addicted and you could just exercise will power to do them only when they weren't causing any problems. But that's not reality.

it can help, like said before, but will prolongue the WD ,imo.
At least in my case...
but i hate the itching and RLS seems to be worst with codeine.
i prefer switching to opioids, tapering and stick with high dosed naproxen...

If WD is Ëasy", you may go chase that dragon again, as it seems you defeated the dragon pretty easily, but things can be very differet the next time.
Stay off the Horse!

I've also gone through cold turkey withdrawals after a couple years of heavy heroin usage but after say 6 months of being clean I started to romanticize the high, and not even thinking about how horrible the detox was I started using again, so in your case this helped you but that's not everyone so I still must fully disagree there's any pride in cold turkeying it and would tell anybody to get help weather through suboxone or methadone, because in the end its up to you to stay off and if you don't want to nothing will stop you from using again

This. QFT. :)

I didn't say there was pride in it. I said there was value in it.

I agree that there is much to be gained from cold turkeying a habit. It definitely makes you reconsider using again much more seriously. Suboxone to me is like cheating the system, because I know I can use and then hop right back on subs and be fine after a day or two of adjustment. Not talking down to anyone, as the sentence above this one is exactly what I do. I'm just sayin, if i had to go through full blown WD everytime I didn't have my DOC, i probably wouldnt be using anymore.

I have been cold turkey off heroin and will do whatever is necessary not to ever CT off opiates again. Xanax or any benzo really is such a life saver its unbelievable, given my habit was always relatively small compared to what I have read on here but still I am sure it at least helps your mental outlook. I think the physical discomfort will send a high percentage of people back to opiates usually day 3 is the breaking point from what I have seen.

for me, going cold turkey didn't stop shit. because once i feel better, that feeling is just a memory. a bad one but still a memory.

Seriously that's the same problem that I've had in the past that has led to me currently using my DOC again (heroin).

i also have done CT several times.....its just not something im overly interested in doing again, considering that it sucks balls. i would much rather do a bupe or done' taper, and frankily i have enough saved up (bupe) that if i relapse, i could taper several times.....
