Help with PhreeX Methcatinone synth, please...

FOAF had a dream last night, in his dream he found PhreeX's Cat synth on deja. He found all the precursors no problem, the hardest being litmus paper... go figure.
Every step was followed exactly, except FOAF left the reaction sit in the fridge for 13.5 hours instead of 10-13 (he fell asleep during his dream). It still smelled strongly of pistachio though. He added isopropol, filtered and adjusted Ph to about 6, let sit for a while and then put on stove to evap. on extremely low heat. 3.5 hours later he was left with a gummy syrup. He pulled it off the heat and let sit overnight hoping crystals/powder would appear. No dice.....He then washed with Acetone and it does NOTHING to the syrup, just washes off clear.
Help, he is left with a dish full of syrup that smells like carmalized sugar. WTF did he do wrong??
BTW, he also read a thread on the NG that the cold reaction with KMNo4 is complete BS, and that the pistachio smell is accounted for by some other chemical. Who to believe?
 
Never done this, but I have read it. Benzaldehyde is the chemical responsible for the pistachio smell. If Phreex says it works, I'm sure it does. Just looks like the cold method leaves you with lots of byproducts. Sounds like you didn't get all the goop out of the pills initially if you've got polymerization.

I filtered the pills at least 4 times with hot dH20. Pills were just psuedo HCL with the normal waxes and fillers. All of this crap should have came out..no?

I'd like to identify the problem before I go running around chasing my tail.
I am still dumbfounded at what went wrong, any ideas?
 
1) Yes, synth questions don't go here... the site they go to is the one you have mentuioned several times - but the admin of that site hasasked we NOT ALLOW LINKS TO THEIR SITE as our users tend to dumb it all up... so I will answer then close... no offense!
2) The problem with that synth was believing two incorrect things -
First, the amount of KMnO4 *DOES* matter more then thought, to much and you over-oxidize to the point you get that mush..
Secondly, the reaction time needs to be a *tad* shorter - I had perfect success as I weighed with a digi and timed with a timer .. then don't slack getting that isopropyl in there, that gives the KMnO4 something else to chew on, leaving your cat alone ..
When done, you WILL get that goo, EVERYONE DOES, so you have to wash the living fuck out of it with ice cold acetone, then wash again...
Try it another time, because I can personally attest to the crunchy crystals you can get once it goes correct for you... and yes, you can unload it for $50 a gram to ravers...
