I have been injecting 8mg Suboxone Strips for roughly 6 months. SWIM had been doing all the work for me up until 2 months ago when he got locked up. He was very good at hitting the main vein in the crook of each of my arms. I've had the most luck with those same veins on my own but am unable to hit them consistently and have banged them up pretty bad trying. They are currently bruised and swollen. I also(now) understand the importance of rotating. I feel like i've read close to every thread on this forum regarding trouble hitting/finding veins and can't find straight forward answers to my considerably basic questions and concerns.
First off, I started out using 31 gauge/8mm needles, but recently moved to 29 gauge/half inchers because I was told I would have more success registering. Does this depend on what veins i'm attempting to hit? Lately i've been trying to register via hand and wrist veins... would a larger gauge and longer needle really HELP? Most of my veins seem to roll, and I can feel some big ones up and down the indside of my forearm but cant see them. So I assume they're deep but I cant hit them for shit. Matter of fact, I cant hit anywhere! Even the tiny ones close to the surface.
I use a new rig practically every time I try to shoot. I try to line up the needle with the path of the vein, and go in slowly at a shallow angle. Im guilty of fishing around A LOT, and I know this is why I have marks all over myself, but I dont know what else to do. Aside from the fact that I dont exactly have gifted veins, I know something has got to be off with my technique. I use a pair of panty hose to tie off (if I dont tie off I cant see or feel my veins) I have a couple fat ones that I can see/feel really well, and I just dont understand why I am never able to register. I always use the vacuum technique.
Should I be going in directly where the vein is popping out most, or should I go in "before" the veins starts/from the side/along the side? Considering im using a half inch needle, how deep should I be expecting a register? Is a 45 degree angle always the best? Lots of people have said to "feel" for the vein, or to listen for it to "pop." I have no idea what I should be feeling for. Can you explain these techniques better to me? When im fishing in my arm and I feel pain, does that mean im close to a vein? Should I move towards or away from the pain (in terms of registering, not safety) Any advice specifically on hitting wrist/hand/feet veins?
I always try to take a hot shower before hand, and excercise. Its not necessarily finding a vein thats my problem, its hitting it. I have a fat one that bulges right on the side of my wrist, and no matter what I try I cant register. Im also not looking for anyone to tell me to quit shooting, or try a different ROA. And im aware of all of the risks/diseases that can come from improper technique and not being clean enough, so please dont give me any advice on that. Im looking for specific advice on registering/technique/easy veins to hit/ any other tips or advise that you think will help me.
Until then....I'm a damsel in distress
