Long time lurker, spent a lot of time here during the RC days. It's good to be back. I'm a physician and have been interested in the phenomenology of the psychedelic experience for several years now. Recently got certified to do narc detox with Suboxone and am working part time with people going through this process. So I guess that makes some 25 years I've been talking to people about mind-chemicals in one capacity or another.
I feel it is time to contribute because there are some good things and some bad things going on in our culture with regard to our attitudes toward chemicals. I've seen a major liberalization over the last few years, which has potentially good consequences (eg, acceptance of THC as a therapeutic agent) and potentially disastrous consequences (looking at oxycodone as a consumer choice). Sadly, it remains true that the vast majority of people use medicine the way they live their lives; ie, without mindfulness and insight.
