I have to agree with others, if you can put down the needle, please do. Even better put down the H! This is of course for HR purposes, not like I can put it down!
Anyway, can you feel the veins at all or are they totally buried? The best spot would probably be the crook of the elbow if you are a beginner with fresh veins. Is there a friend or significant other that may be able to help you? As far as getting veins to show there are several tricks; hot shower, working out, pushups, lots and lots of fluids, etc.
I tend to find that swinging arms in a circular motion around you will push the blood to your extremities, and after doing so just tie off right above the elbow on the bicep side.Give it a second or two to "pop out" and hopefully it will. I have a great vein in that spot and doing that method will practically make it look like it is going to burst out of the skin.
Let me just reiterate, this post is intended for HR purposes and it is my recommendation that you cast IV to the wayside.. I only want to offer some helpful info as I generally find folks will do what they please, and it is best just to at least do it properly! Good luck!
