Has anyone tied mucinex or something similar? (for chest congestion due to smoking)

I have really bad phlegm like to the point I sound like an old man sometimes trying to cough it up. I know the best solution is to stop smoking but it helps to level me out especially now that I'm trying to stay away from dope

Has anyone tried mucinex or something else to clear up some of this shit and if so did it work?

Hey OP,

I just flew by the Mucinex page and it is just a brand name which supplies multiple preparations of mucus based medications including drowsy/nondrowsy, expectorants, cough suppressants, etc.

Perhaps you could be more specific about the active ingredient(s) you are interested in for treating your symptoms?

The link below is the only HL thread I could find on smoker's cough but it's in the archive so this can serve as one if there isn't another I missed.
Smokers cough has to go.. But I love to smoke!

p.s. I own an electronic cigarette and it is awesome but I was never a smoker so maybe not the same.

I'm just interested in what works...I d.c. what chemical, although I'd rather stay away from the one with DXM in it

Well expectorants will make the coughing worse, but might help clear it up if it is a temporary issue. Suppressants will make the coughing better, but will limit the ability to expel phlegm which can complicate the situation. I really don't know sorry. There might be some off site resources which would be great to add in here if you do find anything.

Also in case you weren't aware opioids are a very strong cough suppressant (big search for many was for this reason to prevent spread of disease) and your previous use could have made your mucus situation worse, and now that you are off you notice it more than ever as your body tries to heal.

Yea I kno but a certain brand of mucinex does contain DXM

it never worked for me, and ya, I tried it out of curiosity once for that same purpose.


Also, I take "mucinex" to mean "large doses of Guaifenisen", as that is the only thing thats in the original preparation.
