Hey all,

I was curious if anyone has ever taken this or knows anything about it like how it works other then the obvious. Does it make you tired or drowsy like a Benzo would or does it make you loopy or anything? I get the gist of what it's supposed to do, but have never taken anything like this. Could you possibly take a second one if it didn't work and if so would you get exponentially more tired?

I know this really isn't a question for this forum exactly but the reason for me asking here is because many people in here who have had issues with drugs and or alcohol in the past are not usually prescribed Narcotic Sleep Aids or other similar meds. That being said, their Dr's would usually try to prescribe alternative, non addictive medications (such as the Rozerem that I am inquiring about). I on the other hand have a different problem which is because of me having end stage liver disease, my Dr's try to prescribe medicines to me that generally don't get metabolized by the liver or put a load on the liver. Because I'm now seeing a new Pain Mgt Dr, he doesn't want to prescribe me the Resteril (Temazepam) anymore as Benzo's are highly metabolized by the liver and in people like me with advanced liver disease, the Benzo's can cause the liver to go into overdrive and lead to liver failure. Some how I feel like I didn't need to explain all that as I am sure I had not said anything you all didn't already know, BUT I figured it would be better to post in here as my question really doesn't fall under any of the other drug threads here and I really didn't want to go find a new forum to ask about it if my com padre's here might know the answer, and not to mention I trust you guys much more then anywhere else. :) If you fine mods feel this question should go somewhere else, no worries I would not be insulted. Just let me know and I will toss it somewhere else.

Thanks guys!

I have not personally but I know many people who have and they say that it is a very effective sleep aid (without making them a zombie) and anti-depressant. It can cause some weight gain but not anything like the atypical antipsychotics like Seroquel (I'm fat and sassy thanks to Seroquel).

Hey Missy! There ain't nothing wrong with a lil sassy! ;) However, I just want to make sure that you were not confusing this with Remeron? I am only asking because, I know for a fact that Remeron was a very effective anti-depressant, but has been found to be more effective as a sleep aid, but when I was looking about this one, a. I have never heard of it before, and I am pretty much usually a walking PDR (if you know what that is ;) ), and I also didn't read anything that said that this one was ever used as an anti-depressant as well as a sleep aid. So, I'm not doubting you, just wanted to make sure you weren't mixing those two up because I did myself initially. Oh and as for Seroquel, that is the devils punch for me. I can not take that crap even at a low dose. It turns me into a freaking zombie no matter what does I have gotten it at. I'm sure you know that with me being a recovering alcoholic, they NEVER write us for pain meds, benzo's, no narcotics or possibly addictive meds at all ever! They always tried to push Seroquel and Trazodone, and I hate both of those equally. Infact my last Shrink told me to go find a new Dr because I told her I refused to take Seroquel for my anxiety and sleep. I was really nice with her and told her how it made me and she said if I refused to listen to her then I could go find someone else because she wasn't giving me anything else. So, needless to say, I told her to go pound salt and that was the last time I saw her :) Both of those but mostly the Seroquel just make me drag ass, and this IF I can figure out how to make it out of my bed when taking it. I just could not live like that. I tried to explain to her, but she refused to listen to me that I have never and would never abuse pills. it was not my DOC and still is not my DOC, infact, drinking isn't my DOC anymore either. They put me on Celexa is an anti-depressant but it has shown very well to get rid of the cravings for alcohol, and it's done wonders for me. I haven't even attempted to relapse since I started the Celexa, I just haven't any interest in it any more, which is wonderful, but I just wish I understood how it manages to do it. It's been a wonder for me. But no Dr's believe me when I tell them that pills are not my gig, then they say, yeah, right, and you take pain meds daily and your not addicted. Then I have to explain what they are paid to already know.. I never said I wasn;t addicted to them, but there is a huge different between your body and mind becoming tolerant to them and gaining a physical addiction, then being addicted to them by abusing them or taking them for fun. I do not take Fent and Dilaudid for fun, though I can see how and why people would do that with Dilaudid, and I am not condoning any alcoholic taking pain meds, benzo's or other highly addictive meds as it is very easy to get caught up in them, but again thats not my thing. WOW sorry, I just had such a run on few sentences! I haven't been able to sleep the last couple days as this Rozerem isn't really helping me fall asleep. My problem is that I can't fall asleep. Once I finally fall asleep, I tend to stay asleep, but getting there is another story!

Sorry for my babbling! It's just been one of those nights! And I am a little nervous because my folks are going away for a few days and the reason I am a little nervous is with my End Stage liver disease, I get sick quite often, and I have a bit of a safety net with my folks being here to get me to the ER which I need to do alot because my ammonia levels fluctuate alot, and it makes me go Hepatic encephalopathy, which if you never have had, it SUCKS! Though it is a good way to play dumb lol!! Any who, sorry for my babbling! :) Hope all is well! Let me know if you are sure about the med name, just so I can be sure :) We shall chat soon!

I think that you're right. Sorry! But I do know people who have taken Rozerem as well and I will ask them how it worked out for them. Do you have any specific concerns?

Ahhhhh Excellent! Sounds like my internal PDR is still working pretty well still! ;) So, I really haven't any concerns with it persea, I am really more just curious what to expect when taking it... I mean I get that it helps release extra Melatonin which is a hormone that helps regulate the wake / sleep cycle. Having said that, I am used to taking sleep meds that actually help to induce sleep by sedation so when you take it, with in a period of time, you get tired and fall asleep. From what I have read about this med, it would seem that this is not something that you would take on a regular time every night and over time, you will eventually start to fall asleep more easily, but doesn't sound like it's a quick acting type drug. So I am curios as to whether or not you can take more then one to really kick you into sleep, and if you did and since you are messing around with the chemicals which if you change the does it can easily make you feel ill, so that's some of the questions I have... What should I expect to feel when taking it. Is it going to make me feel tired after taking it? If I find, as I believe I already am, that it doesn't seem to be helping, can you safely take a second one like an hour after taking the first one? Is it going to take me like a week or so before it starts helping you sleep? Those are the sort of things I am wanting to know about this. I can, and have, read the PDR about it, but that is just going to tell me the "book" about it, but what the med sheet tells you and what it does in real life, can and usually are completely different. I am just wanting to know what expectations are that I should have with it.

My guess is that it probably isn't going to help like the Temazapam (Restoril) did and since All Benzo's are really tough on the liver, I can guarantee that none of my current Dr's are going to write me for the meds that I know used to work.

So I guess you could say that I am looking for an explanation from someone who has taken this, as to what they went through with it, how they felt, how long until it started to work for them and what if any side effects they ran into with it. Just a real report from someone who's taken it. Make sense? I am so tired, from not being able to sleep the last few nights, I'm getting loopy and not sure if I am making any sense! lol :) Thanks you sassy thing you :P

Cheers!

It is meant to help people fall asleep faster than they normally would. My understanding is that it works best if you do take it every night at the same time every night so that you can allow it to set your clock for you. Don't expect it to act like a strong benzodiazepine. Rozerem will allow to develop good sleep hygiene.

I just spent two weeks in a psych ward and the majority of the patients there were taking Rozerem, including my roommate. They slept like babies. In psych wards, they don't like to hand out narcotic sleep meds, Ambien will be the strongest you will get, and you have to have a real need for the 5-10 mg they will give you (typically the newcomers will get it).

Ok so Rozerem made me very sleepy at first...but after the first month or two, the side effects started coming along. RLS doesn't begin to describe how my legs would move violently throughout the night keeping me awake for hours.

By all means try it, but if you experience sever side effects stop right away and call your doctor! I went though hell before I tried this simple step.

Ahhh, excellent, this is just the type of information I was looking for. Ok thanks guys! I will carefully monitor this and note my sleep schedule. This is a problem because one of the side effect with Advanced Liver Disease is a huge problem with your wake sleep cycle. This can sometimes become completely reversed. I will keep trying this, but very closely monitor any adverse affects it may have on me.

Thanks again guys!

Oh and Missy, I am very aware of Ambien, I had been on it for years, but the problem is that now if I take it, it just doesn't work the right way nor safely anymore. This is why they switched me to Temazapam, because when I would take Ambien, I started to sleep walk, and then not remember a damn thing the next day, but at the same time, everyone would tell me I was wide awake, I just had no memory of any of it. It's really a strange drug.

I took rozerem for awhile. It lost its abilty to make me fall asleep after awhile. I would just use it for sleep but only would take it maybe 3 times a week, kept it on a rotation with other sleeping pills. It seemed to work better that way. Crazy dreams on that stuff.

Ambien is bad shit. One morning I woke up with my bed smeared with chocolate. Other times I would wake up in the driveway waiting for Cinderella's magic pumpkin carriage. I can't tell you how many fucked up emails I sent to people while under the influence of Ambien. Very professional. It's not a safe drug, even when used as prescribed.

Just my 2 cents, others may have entirely opposite experiences.

TRUE STORY - My brother was taking Ambien and got up out of bed and shot himself in the head with a pistol. He was very happy and had no indications of depression or other mental issues. This was in 2007 and now almost 2013 and I am still bummed.....

I take Zopiclone with ZERO side affects. 10mg a night + Rozerem 8mg and I sleep perfectly. Once stable on Zopiclone you get so sleepy you can barely stand upright on less than 10mg.

Peace----
