Okay, I can not find much on this anywhere else. So I apologize if this has been discussed already. Anyway, I have acquired a few ounces of powdered passion flower. It is a very fine green powder from which I received some of my Amish acquaintances (Thanks to Mr. Dutchman :) ). I was wondering if Harmaline/Harmine may be extracted and based using the same procedure outlined for Syrian Rue? I believe it was called DOS extraction. Is the freebasing even worth it or should I just stick with good ol' water then bond with salt?

Sorry if this sounds stupid.
 
Oh yeah, I have already tried extraction and bonding to form HCl and it worked way better than I expected. To be honest, I totally fudged around pH and filtration and still got some very potent (but not very attractive) product. Point being, I know I am working with reliable plant matter containing an extremely high alkaloid content.
 
you sound like you know what you are doing for the most part. The harmaline/alkaloids should be able to be extracted the same way as syrian rue although it might pull out some other alkaloids as well. It sounds like you are just doing this to enable the maoi properties of passionflower. It should work, I would just take a large dose since passionflower has proven to be fairly mild in my experience.
 
Ok cool, I have tried the extract and it's pretty decent. Next time I think I'll prepare more but I was excited about experimenting. Thanks for your answers :) Anyway, to answer onmyway - I have had awesome results from Harmaline and none with Harmine really.. I had the chance to separate the two (on accident). Usually the dreams it gives are so vivid I have no idea whether I am asleep or awake and feel like I didn't get much rest at first. But then in my last hour or so of 'sleep' I am suddenly rejuvenated. As an MAO inhibitor, I have used it to alleviate the comedown from MDMA and would now rather use it than other aids I have tried in the past.
 
By the way, I keep getting conflicting info on the appearance of harmaline. In some places, I read that it appears as a needle while in others it is said to appear as little square plates. I have pretty much isolated both from one another and was wondering if anyone here knows the difference between harmine and harmaline in physical appearance?
