This is kind of crazy, I like many here have smoked weed for a very long time. I use to hand grind at times when its all I could do but I'd always opt for a grinder. Until recently someone had told me they notice a taste with the grinder that just isn't there with hand grinding. Multiple grinders, different material types, electronic and mechanical. All of a sudden I decided to give it a go and holy shit I don't, just notice a difference but I can no longer enjoy it to exactly the same level without hand grinding it and not 1 grinder seems exempt, and iv got some costly and quality grinders. Almost like a fuckin cognito hazard because I never noticed that shit before.

ive never used an electric grinder only hand ones, even used the cheap plastic ones that come with like the Mighty

I cant say ive ever noticed a bad taste or something up with it, but i presume as well i would notice a fleck of something broken off from the grinder in the bud as i mainly vape so i examine it for a bit before i hit it every time

Its crazy because there is no way something is coming off into the grind. I also would assume id notice that. I shall test this further but so far its been a bitch.

From what I've experienced I think that the "burr" size and shape has a lot more to do with it than whether it is with a hand or mechanically driven grinder or the material it is constructed with.

Just my $.02

I was starting to wonder and play with the size of the chop it really does affect it greatly. You have a good point!

got a standard metal hand held grinder for free from the dispensary and i started using it when i had some dense nugs that weren't burning in the bowl right... i never noticed it giving the bud any type of taste.. in the bowl, i think packing a bud v.s. grinding it will taste different cause not all the packed bud will burn up and you'll taste some getting vaporized and if it's ground up, it will burn 100%... if i roll a joint, i don't notice a difference in taste. i don't think there's any metal taste in the weed really. i've smoked out of metal bowls or cans and that tastes a bit funky sometimes... supposedly some grinders parts rub together and plastic or metals shards end up in the flower... i really don't know. doesn't really seem to be happening with my grinder. there's no squeeking or anything when i rotate it. it's possible there's some metal, but i wouldn't think it was enough for it to effect me. idk.

i come back to add that, i vaporise flower a lot more than smoking it (Basically these days i only smoke socially which is rare)
So i notice that if i barely grind (a few turns) i get a lot more flavour and vapour production vs finely ground , where as i always prefer finely well ground bud for rolling joints
