I wish to make it clear that no politics is entered into. It's purely a discussion of the technical problems and a realistic costing.

I DID find it very entertaining - they joke about it as they do will all proliferation issues. After all, what else can you do?

In essence, the advantage is still hugely in favour of any agressor by any metric you care to choose.

So nothing changes.

We all die, regardless.

We won't see this anytime soon. The U.S. is too large to cover adequately. The costs too high.

I toured a site in California in the Bay that was an old short range interceptor missile site from the Cold War, the idea being that at least nukes might blow up off the coast and not right in San Francisco. That seems to be about the best we can do, financially.

The whole thing reeks of Reagan's Star Wars program. Trump will be out in 2028 and the whole program will be scrapped.

The only reason it works for Israel is because it's the size of New Jersey.

As they point out, it would cost $1 to increase costs to any defence shield by $20 and don't forget, those LEO satellites have to be replaced every four years or so - so it's not a one-off cost. It's going to cost that much EVERY year.

Previous US ABMs were OK for point defence but even those were quickly phased out when it was recognized how simple it was to defeat them.

Advantage lies with attacker. So any ABM system gives Russia and China reasonable grounds to place nuclear weapons in orbit (not FOBs, satellites).
