to whom it may concern.....ive been doing this for years, years....ive been thru heroin withdrawal, cocaine..sorta only mental, yet booze detox, is the worst, the absolute worst of any of them.....i puke, cant sleep, crap myself, puke again, shake and i mean like have to hold a cup with 2 hands type of shake..it insanity, im about to do it all again..me vida loca i guess...i dont wish what im about to go thru upon any of you...ever. Peace folks.

Sorry to hear about that, but do you have a specific question?

Have you thought about checking into an inpatient detox? It sounds like you're at the point where your alcohol withdrawals are pretty serious and it can be really dangerous to detox at home. Have you had seizures in the past during booze withdrawal? As I'm sure you know having been through this before, that's the real concern.

Booze detox is horrible, but benzos help a lot. A lot a lot. Though keep in mind that benzos are a temporary fix, their withdrawal is even worse. Talk to a doc or do some inpatient. If you say you've been gone through this before, than maybe it's time to reevaluate your drinking.

ive been thru the benzo deal...it really just make it worse...and in fact makes it more dangerous...booze and benzos work on the same receptors...i detoxed off both...i nearly died...spent several days in the icu.....nope benzos aint the answer....i will just ride this out....im afraid.

Cold turkey detoxing of of alcohol is not recommended. It could honestly kill you. You need to go to an inpatient detox. They will put you on a librium taper and prevent you from seizing out/your BP going through the roof.

a viable alternative to benzodiazepines is baclofen. i've detoxed myself with that from a pretty nasty drinking habit and it was no more difficult than the ones i did with diazepam, GHB or chlormethiazole. also carbamazepine is a useful adjunct drug, however on its own it's not nearly enough.

thanks folks....look im just venting this crap is hard alone, dont really know where else to go though...i knpw alcohol detox is a very rough, dangerous deal. i know i really do. thing is i have been to the VA(veterens admiin) detox like 7-8 times over the years, they wont take me anymore. im kinda like a revolving door with them...7-8 detoxes, 4-5 rehabs...they dont wanna see me anymore. I basically have no where to go. I have the basic meds..thiamine, multies, all the vitamins u can think of....i quit sure i will live, its just gonna be rough...will keep u posted, if only for sanity's sake.

Now what makes you think he won’t up and combine things in outpatient care?

At least in inpatient, he doesn’t have any possible interaction with booze at all... That is the best option.

No one said get addicted to benzos and start drinking again...they mean for you to seek medical help where they will likely use a relatively low dose of valium or ativan to prevent any dangerous outcomes from the alcohol w.d and setup a taper to effectively stop using the benzos without any compliactions.

Both you and I know no one has to say anything... This stuff happens and he’ll be deep before he knows it.

Damn. Good luck CaveBear! Just remember, it will end. Twelve days or so and you should be feeling a lot better. The voices DO go away!

All that can be done is to suggest safe(r) ways to deal with this issue. He is an adult and needs to make the decision himself. Whether he go inpatient or seeks outpatient help. Of course he could get addicted to benzos if he uses them, but if he doesn't he might have a dangerous seizure or his BP will be 220/120 and he is at risk for a lot of other issues. The OP has the attitude that since he did it before without issues he will come out unscathed, its a dangerous way to rationalize things.

Exactly. The dangers involved with cold turkey alcohol withdrawal far outweigh the potential for a future benzo addiction. If you use the benzos properly like they would do in a detox facility, you will not walk away with a benzo dependency.

hey folks...i am still messed up....im outtta cash...bought a a 12ver of beer...gonna try and sober up..over a few days

Well I'm sorry you feel that way.

Good luck to you.

I'm closing this thread because you're not actually looking for any advice or have any questions and we don't allow threads just to vent. Maybe your blog would be better suited for that.
