So another post from me.

I've just downed a bottle of codeine linctus (the sugar free one) and I'm itching like ducking mad.

I normally take 200mg of oxy and don't experience this reaction. I'm only using it as I've run out of oxy and need something in the mean time.

My skins all red and but at least the withdrawals are at bay.

I took 20mg of centrizine (anti histamine). Will this stop this ducking scratching?

I also have 25mg tabs of promethazine at hand. Perhaps an idea to take them?

next time take the anti-histamine 30-60 min before dosing. The cyclizine should help, if not helping after an hour take a half a promethazine

My lips are swelling and my skin is red, this sucks dick. Fckin sugar free stuff is from hell.

possible allergic reaction from codiene. Do not mean to worry you but if it gets worse after waiting a little to see if the anti-histamine helps than seek medical attention

If the promethazine doesnt reverse the reaction within an hour or so (ie. The swelling gets worse) then go get some medical help. Cyclizine is a better anti-emetic ime. The promethazine would been a better choice at the start. Once a histamine reaction gets so far it can be a bitch to reverse. Also if your tongue starts to swell then get medical help right away, it doesnt take a lot of swelling in that area the affect respiration.

i took the promethazine anyway. i'm going to see how it goes.

i know its not an allergic reaction to codeine, its just this sugar-free brand in particular.

if i have the sugared brand of codeine linctus i never have this problem.

20mg of cetrizine (sorry my bad) and 12.5 prometh. i could top it off to 25mg?

Codeine is always a itchier high then anything else I've taken, same goes for anyone I know whose tried both oxy and codeine

As someone else said take some Benadryl or promethazine

well lets see how it goes. how long do you think it will take the promethazine to take effect?

this is pretty fucking unbearable. i wish i hand't of even bothered with it now.

Okay I feel nauscious, when I tried to get up I started losing my vision, I'm sweating like hell.

What can I do to end this?

Fuck codeine. Fuck this shit. I'm never fucking doing this again.

Err, sounds like you need to see a doc asap? Loosing vision? Thats prob not good?

Just when I stood up quickly from siting down. I think that's due to low blood pressure? Or high? Either way it's a side effect of this garbage I took.

Time to get a new opiate my friend. Once you start requiring high doses of codeine the side effects out way the euphoria.

I believe sure that promethazine potentiates codeine and is one of the few things that can increase the conversion to morphine, this is based on anecdotal evidence. what was the codeine dosage? try to lie down and wait it out for an hour, codeine can cause dysphoria in high dosages and it takes about an 1-1.5 hours to feel better

Low blood pressure, fast heartbeat, and unbearable headache as if it were to explode are main signs you can't miss of huge histamine secretion caused by codeine. Of course it may be caused by some ingredient in the linctus you drank as you emptied the whole bottle and I'm guessing 1-2 teaspoons are meant as a medicine.

I have never seen such a bad reaction to codeine in anyone unless taken intravenously, then even low doses may turn out fatal. This may be not induced by codeine.

this rings a bell with me. However the OP took the promethazine a bit late on for it to affect codeine conversion in any great way, its proberly adding to the side effects though, such as the orthostatic hypotension. OP for safetys sake maybe it would be a good idea to stay sat down and keep well hydrated and that should stave off the faints. Since you dont have any problems with the full sugar version could your reaction be related more to the artifical sweetener (sorbitol?). Symptoms like swollen lips and sweating are common in food allergys.

Adder, you had the same conclusion as me and at the exact same time! Made me chuckle anyway. :-D

i don't think it was the codiene, i think im allergic to something in the non-sugared version of the stuff. i can take a bottle whole of the sugared stuff with no problem at all. i had those symptoms, red skin all over, super fast heart beat, headache was bearable but present. sitting up and trying to get water made my vision nearly completely black out - but i didn't feel as if i was feinting which is what surprised me. i just had a super hot flash - sweating like hell but then really damn cold. my lips were really damn swollen, it was horrifying.

it's starting to subside now, i haven't eaten for the past 8 hours either. i'm going to try and get some food down me now maybe it will help me out.

omega 3 oils i think are what saved my body from swelling to the size of a tomato though. i took a handful of them and the swelling started to subside.

A good tip for others then in regards to the omega 3 and swelling reactions. glad to hear your feeling bit better now though. Just out of interest, what is the artifical sweetener in the lictus? Sorbitol keeps popping Into my head so I must have read about a reaction to it somewhere.

Citric acid (E330)

Sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219)

Sodium ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E215)

Sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate

Ethanol

Sunset yellow dye (E110)

Saccharin sodium

Carmellose sodium

Menthol

Condensed milk flavour

Orange flavour

Glycerol (E422)

Purified water

List of other ingredients. I'm guessing that the glycerol fucked me over. It says it can even produce seizures in high doses - pretty much what I felt was going to happen to me.

I'm sure such a high dose of artificial sweetener could do nasty things as well?

^^
Ah its saccharin then in all liklihood although what you said about the glycerol could be true. Oh well learnt I hope. And for its time blaze away. :-)
