GMAT: impressions, tips, advice?

Hello, would be deeply appreciative for any suggestions on studying and test-taking. I have a good math background calc & beyond but kinda worried about the essay portion.

Anybody taken it? How did you prepare (study guide, live review or not at all)? Spanks!

A site I bookmarked a year or so ago, well in advance of when I'd ever need to sit the GMAT, but whatever (currently a first year, or a freshman, I think Americans call it)

One thing I did read is that you should take your GMAT either during your last year or right after you graduate, since the stuff is fresh-ish in your mind. The results are valid for 5 years (I THINK!!).

Yup, it's 5 yrs. Just ordered a used Kaplan guide, so we'll see. Thanks again
