Glass pipes,oil burner, Bad quality, bad taste?

Recreational meth user here. Pretty experienced but only smoke. I have used foil, light bulbs, but mostly glass pipe / oil burners. I usually get locally from friends in town, but got sick of having to wait when I needed them. Anyway I bought some cheap ones online that have colored stripe designs on the bulb. The were thick and pretty but when I took the first hit I immediately tasted plastic /chemicals. So I scraped the rest out and boiled them all about 5 minutes, still no change. Is this normal or am I imagining it? What would cause this? Also the product doesn't roll around right as it stays in between the colored stripes.
