GHB and prolactin

Hi,

What is the general opinion on GHB's ability to raise prolactin levels? Are these raised to a significant harmful level?

Having researched on this substance for over two weeks, the only piece of information that I find is that prolactin levels raise five fold at the 60 minute mark over baseline (HGH increases sixteen times). I am not sure how long it lasts though, and if sucha temporary increase in prolactin will have side-effects.

I am an athlete (compete) and have to carefully watch my bodyfat and bodycomposition (as well as prolactin's other baddies), hence my concern for any prolactin issues.

Many thanks

Wikipedia says:
In men, the most common symptoms of prolactinoma are impotence, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and infertility. Because men have no reliable indicator such as menstruation to signal a problem, many men with hyperprolactinoma being caused by an adenoma may delay going to the doctor until they have headaches or eye problems caused by the enlarged pituitary pressing against nearby eye nerves. They may not recognize a gradual loss of sexual function or libido. Only after treatment do some men realize they had a problem with sexual function.

Raybeez--

While you make a good point, I will submit that I got gyno while taking lots of GHB on a deca-durabolin cycle. Neither alone ever gave me gyno. As you know, elevated prolactin levels can cause gyno, and seeing as I was not shooting any test, I think we can assume that estrogen was not the culprit. Moreover, that particular case of gyno was STUBBORN. Small, but took a full year to dissipate. So yes, GHB CAN cause gyno in prone individuals, or if combind with other compounds that elevate prolactin.

Thanks for the replies,

Bilzor, that is what I fear. I just received my GBL and my intention is to use it occasionally (yeah, I know it is a substance prone to abuse, but I will try my best not to), hence my concern whether occasional use would lead to hyperprolactinoma.

Raybeez, that is some useful research, thanks. I was wondering though, do you know how long does the five fold increase last for? And would prolactin side effects be counteracted by the HGH increase?(HGH being a pro-composition hormone - mobilized fat, positive impact on HPA axis etc)

The only information I could really obtain is from:

http://www.ceri.com/feature.htm

Read The Actions of GHB in the body.

Synchroject, I agree it could have been some drug synergies leading to gyno. However, I have heard of users reporting gyno at later steroids cycles, even though they used the same steroid.

By the way, since my intention is to use in place of alcohol, I think in terms of body composition and overall health, GHB use is less detrimental than alcohol. Alcohol has a strong endocrinal impact, one of them being lowered testosterone and HGH output. So perhaps, trading-wise, I would still be better off.

Excuse my ignorance, but by "gyno", do you mean Gynecomastia ? I have definately never heard of GHB alone causing this, even in men taking excessive amounts around the clock (re: addiction).

It seems as though elevated prolactin is listed as a cause for gynecomastia, and medications which affect dopamine receptors are implicated as well [GHB blocks dopamine release during acute effects, but mass releases it upon wearing off, afiak].

However, referring to my previous example, GHB causes a minimal increase in prolactin levels on it's own (compared to say, pregnancy). In addition, these increases are transient (i.e. don't extend much past the duration of the drug itself).

I have a few friends that were taking GHB in combination with various steroid regiments, I'm going to check with them and see if anyone in their circle has ever encountered this. I'm really interested in hearing if more people have experiences other hormone related issues like tihs, either from GHB alone or in combination with a steriod.

That would be some very interesting anecdotal evidence. Please report it once you know of it.

This brings another question; Synchroject, did you use PCT? Or estrogen blockers during the cycle?

No PCT or estrogen blockers -- keep in mind this was deca, all by itself, in low doses just to maintain muscle mass -- not gain. Seeing as I had only been on the cycle itself for less than six weeks, but had been on GHB for the entire summer, it seemed fairly obvious that the gyno was a result of both.

I had used GHB for the previous eight years, btw, without any such incident.

I had used deca three times prior for sixteen weeks in higher doses, again, without incident.
