Getting sober by getting medicated

Hey yall! First BL post ever and I’m excited to finally say something after being a lurker for a couple years!
So recently I got in to see a real psychiatrist after fighting to find one accepting new patients for a good year to or so, and the appointment ended with me started fluoxetine and trazodone for my various mental issues. My GP has been handling all of my psych meds and seriously fucking it up, so I’m glad that I can see someone who’s an expert in the field. Im currently a month sober from my drugs of choice (mainly coke and speed, but I would try pretty much anything at least once) but I still smoke weed to help me get to sleep. I’m hoping that with the trazodone, I’ll actually be able to fall asleep and stop smoking to do so! However, I also don’t know if quitting weed so quickly will be too much too soon after quitting the harder stuff, and preventing a full relapse is the main goal for me rn. To be perfectly honest, I have very little faith that either of these medications will work for me considering all of my previous meds (Celexa, Paxil, Vistaril, Wellbutrin, AND Cymbalta) haven’t made a dent in my depression/anxiety, on top of causing side effects. Other than that, I live in the Midwest United States and I’m a visual artist of all mediums and I’m currently really into Charli XCX’s new album, Brat. In addition I’m in recovery for an ED and love to connect with others in the same boat as I am. The road to recovery is long and treacherous, but so very worth it! It’s good to meet you!

Welcome!

I'm currently prescribed fluoxetine and trazodone as well. I find the fluoxetine works well for my depression. Trazodone I don't take regularly. There are a few reasons why, primarily because it gives me a horrendously stuffy nose which makes sleeping impossible. It also is a very subtle effect. I've noticed for myself that I have to be very relaxed and prepared to sleep for the pill to work. When I was in treatment, other patients who took trazodone did not notice any improvement in sleep either.

If you're worried about quitting cannabis too soon or too quickly, then just adjust your intake over time. Personally, I don't have a problem quitting weed, it's meth that I get the real bad cravings for. I found that smoking weed helps get rid of that FOMO feeling when I'm out of twack.

Eitherway, I commend you on your efforts for a healthier lifestyle. It's not an easy thing to do.

Welcome! As a long time cannabis user, whenever I take breaks I end up getting some degree of anhedonia. It might help to titrate your use slowly and try combining higher CBD products as well

Hard agree with the FOMO part. Not having any sort of chemical happiness seems a little daunting, so I figure anything that’s safer and more functional is an improvement

Hey there and welcome to bluelight.

Just to give my personal input about the trazadone and this just personal experience and how I feel but I was on it for a few months once to helps with my insomnia and finded it to build up tolerance quickly and not wanting to go higher ( into the therapeutic usage ) so I didn't go higher then 100mg and it stop working toba degree and later I weened down and drop it.

So yeah just my personal intake on said med
