Hi,
I have been on suboxone for a few weeks now on 24 mg. my simple question is: Is it possible to achieve any recreational effects, and if so, what ROA is necessary and what might be a suggested dosage.
Thanks.

Any recreational effects from Suboxone?

No. If you're addicted to opiates, it's impossible to get high from Suboxone

There is no "high" from suboxone period. You can get a mild "very mild" nice feeling but that only works for someone who has not taking opiates or subs for a long period of time.

Nahh 24 mg is a ceiling dose. Your pretty much stuck. That's a REALLY big dose man. I maintain on around 1mg a day. I bet you could chop down to 16 mgs a day and not even feel the difference.

As everyone has said, no you can't get high from sub if you're already on 24mg/day. Why are you on such a high dose? I ask because it seems weird to me that someone with an opiate habit that's big enough to warrant 24mg suboxone/day would still think it was possible to somehow use it recreationally.

No you cant. It wont work. Dont even bother trying to shoot it. Take it from me as ive been doing that for a bout a week now just to 'switch things up a bit'. It doesnt work. Also, since you are at 24mg/day, you can drop down a significant amount. I suggest doin that and saving some subs for when, or if you ever need them again to have on hand.

When I had a very low tolerance after taking a long break I was able to get high off it, but only for the first 4-5 days. This time around my tolerance was way higher, and I barely feel anything from the suboxone, just not being sick really. I get extra energy after certain doses, but other days not so much. I remember during my first go with suboxone that if I took a few days off to the point of getting sick that I could get a buzz from dosing, but nowadays I wouldn't bother having to feel sick just for a slight buzz that might not even happen.

thanks for the responses. I figured as much. interestingly a friend of mine swears that he gets a buzz everyday he takes his 16 mg maintenance dose. I guess everybody reacts differently to it so I was curious to see what peoples experiences were on this subject.

The majority of doctors out there prescribing have absolutely no clue how much to give people...they pretty much think if you have a moderate to small habit they'll give you 16mgs a day, a big habit 24mgs a day...

When it comes to detoxing people from it, they're even more clueless....I once told a doctor that I was on 4mg a day, and he says, "Wow, only 4mgs, you're practically off the stuff!"..Yeah, they usually have everyone just jump off at 2mgs....In reality, 2-4 mgs is a good maintenance dose, with 8 mgs being a high dose...and you should taper down to at least .5mgs before you attempt to stop taking it...even lower than that IMO...

OP, people with no tolerance to opiates or occasional recreational users get really high from it...1-2 mgs...In your case, it will never happen...It's a strange drug that doesn't follow the same logic that other drugs do...

No, you cant get high on subs at that dose, and you cant take any other opiates and feel them at all. that's what subs do, and they do it well. Just a word of advice/caution: sub w/d is VERY sucky, start tapering now, and do it S-L-O-W-L-Y. Yeah you can jump from 24 to 16 mg np, but Im talking from 2 to 0, take at least a month to jump off. Even 1mg suboxone/subetux is a fair amount, you need to be in microgram doses before you quit.

ugh... this is complicated yet so common.

you certainly need to lower your dose of sub. please dont IV them. it works, it works great. but it wears off faster, and is generally just bad to be doing. no need to go into detail on that one. you can gain extra bio availability by using vodka or something similar. u put the sub under your tongue, and put maybe a quarter of a shot of vodka in your mouth with it and let it dissolve as normal. then after its done dissolving SPIT it out. spitting out suboxone was recommended to me by a dr btw... it helps avoid some side effects, and u dont gain anything from swallowing it. i was able to cut my dose in half with the alcohol method (here is a link to the thread about it, it also talks about making a large amount for storage and dosage methods, etc...) that doesnt mean you are using less tho, just getting more out of the amount you dose.

trust me. u need to get down to about the 2-4 mg range or less in order to enjoy your time on subs imo. i dont agree with some folks that u get all that "high" off of it when u stabilize at a small enough dose... i think u just experience less crappy side effects. and you get more nor-bupe to the receptors, which is more like a full agonist.

at doses around 2mg subL or less u start to get more Nor-bupe out of your dose. this is why everyone says less is more with bupe.

just in general i feel way better recently lowering my dose from 2-3mg to about 1-1.5mg daily.

When tapering from 24mg a day, u can jump down quite a bit at first. id try taking 16mg for two days straight, and see if u get any bad w/d. if not, then keep lowering it. that way u dont get used to that lowered dosage, instead u just keep lowering the dose slowly each day/every other day etc... that way its not a big drop each time u lower the dose. like if u were ok at 16mg for 3-4 days id then start to try 12 mg... then 10, then 8, etc... dont try to jump from like 8mg to 2mg. it would be very hard most likely. so if u do it right u can avoid that, and have an easy taper.

with that said... if u MUST get high. on another opiate... (and yeah u can get high on other opiates while on subs, its just hard to do, complicated, and dangerously easy to overdose) when you are around 4mg sub or less daily it starts to lose its blocking effect. this will differ for each individual, but at some point once u have a low enough amount of bupe in you, you can get high off of normal opiates. i recently got very high off of just one bag of dope, only
about 4-5 hours after taking 1.5 mg of sub (using vodka too, so more like 2.5-3 mg sub normally). so that shows you that subs blocking ability is kinda predictable if u do it right. and the lower the dose of sub your maintaining on when u relapse, the easier it will be to go back on your sub after getting high. the higher the dose of sub your maintaining on when u relapse, the harder it is to go back on the sub after getting high. i got precipitated withdrawals a few times from that. its a level of hell that hard to describe. so your best off not relapsing!! :)

so like everyone is saying.... give up on getting high, it aint gonna happen on subs. IV subs doesnt give a rush, doesnt get u high, nothing. its just the same "glow" u get from taking normally, it just takes longer to feel it, and it doesnt spike in concentration as much. IV also wears off SO much faster for me, way faster than it should imo. subL with alcohol is the way to go imo. and lower your dose!! 24mg is WAY too much. dont let anyone fool u.

I've gotten "high" on it before wen I first started maintanance. But it doesnt feel like a traditional opiate high, it hardly even resembles one. It's strange..
