Misc Getting caught with crushed up Percocet?

Lets say somebody got caught with a baggie full of a crushed up percocet, first time offense , under NY state law, major trouble ? It was literally half a percocet I think, the kid was not even in his room when his roomate called public saftey (this is at a college) so they just took the baggie and razor blade that was next to it. Would they even be able to tell what the substance is if its this crushed up?
