Getting a new doctor to fill old doctors prescriptions?

I recently had to change my health insurance carrier, which requires me to see a new doctor.

my question is... If i bring in an empty pill bottle from my previous doctor will my new doctor start filling that script for me?

the last fill date was only 2 months ago so it's not like its a very old script.

its for xanax if that even matters.

Yeah there shouldn't be a problem for you, I move a lot and have never had a problem with this, as long as you have the documentation to go along with it.

what kind of documentation? medical records?

i don't have them in possession as i kind of made this doc appt spur of the moment.

isn't that something the doctor can find on their own?

They can look up your scripts and the empty pill bottle should suffice. That's all I needed when I found my new psychiatrist who happens to be a specialist in panic disorder.

UPDATE : i filled out the new patient paper work and was asked "what prescriptions or medications have you used in the last month"

SO i listed my two medications i truly needed and was actually prescribed from last doc.

Long story short i was given xanax again from this new doctor but he gave me X45 0.5Mg, and i was told three .5mg doses a day to last me 15 days and have a check up in 14 days, so right when i run out.

My previous family doctor prescribing me 60 .5mg's every refill and that was supposed to last 30 or so days.

Anyone know why i would only be given a 15 day supply, as opposed to my other doctor giving me a month supply?

i' m buzzin so if that sounds stupid or makes no sense please flame me

You should find another new doctor. Doctor Phishing has always worked for me eventually. I have GAD, panic disorder, and supposedly ADHD. The benzos are a necessity to lead a normal life with the massive amount of anxiety I deal with. The ADHD meds get me out of bed in the morning but also ad to the anxiety. It took awhile, but I finally found a doctor that happily prescribes me Xanax, Ativan, Concerta, and Seroquel (for sleep) all consistently. She even treats my adult acne well!
Take your business elsewhere. And I wish you the best.

I found my psychiatrist when I was already prescribed xanax and I had some trouble.. I saw two psychiatrists that were gonna let me go off cold turkey and I was so afraid of having a seizure or WD So I finally I called offices and said "I just moved here from another state I am prescribed xanax for horrible panic disorder I would like to continue this treatment"... second office I called said yes it was no problem even if they were to take me off it they would taper me, and also I now see a specialist in panic disorder. It's been 2 years he hasn't tapered me and he added klonopin to take the edge off. I really lucked out with him though because he only treats patients with anxiety and panic disorder. My advice is to call around to the psychiatric offices in your area, 15 minutes with a psychiatrist is way better than dealing with shit from your PCP! Good lucK!

your doctor made another appointment for you only 2 weeks later? what the fuck? why are you posting about this on bluelight? just be a normal person and ask him to explain why he is inconveniencing you so. He will most likely give you an answer, and then you can decide how to proceed from there.

My guess is to see how you take your meds. To see if you run out early or if you come back saying you need more/higher dosage. Probably feeling you out to see if it's just drug seeking behavior (I think every doc these days takes people for drug seekers unless u settle for an ssri ha). I kno I had like weekly appts with my psych (although he was an addiction specialist) for first 2-3 weeks then every 2 now it's a steady 1 month thing. My GP had me scripted Ativan and the psych switched me to Xanax but gave me 15 .5 mg for first 3 weeks (bs). Then I returned and he scripted me 30x 1mg w/ 1 refill. So my best guess is your a new pt and he's probably trying to see if ur using them as prescribed or if ur xannied out 24-7. Just a guess based on experiences. Good luck tho and I'm sure you'll b fine. If he does it again then I'd suggest asking why so soon (even if it's just a it cost more money twice a month then once).
